2017 Ford F-150 Regular Cab: Review, Specs, Trims, Price

Continuous upgrading is the recipe for the success. If anyone knows that, it should be the Ford and its selling champion, Ford F-150. The model came fully redesigned for the 2015 model year and two years after major upgrades are again there. The new, turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine comes with the new 10-speed automatic transmission. The new generation of off-road ready Raptor also returns on the scene and new STX Appearance package is also available. Ford, of course, offers its best-selling vehicle in many configuration options and let’s see what we get with the 2017 Ford F-150 Regular Cab.


The Ford Regular Cab has two-door cab style and you can get it in two bed lengths. Available are the long 8-foot bed and 6.5-foot as well. Ford offers this truck in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited trims. However, the regular cab models are work-oriented trucks which are available in XL and XLT while the higher trims are reserved for the extended and Crew Cab versions. The model is also available with several engine options.

From the visual point of view, the 2017 Ford F-150 Regular Cab and other models haven’t changed for the 2017 model year but the 2018 model will bring some updates. The model rides on the fully-boxed frame and features aluminum made body panels.

The front fascia on the regular cab models includes three-bar style grille, and halogen headlights. However, the XL trim features the black grille with black Nostrils while the XLT replaces the black finish with the chrome. The same is with both trims bumpers.


Inside, the Regular Cab models can seat up to three passengers. The models have good outward visibility and controls sized for the easy use. The Regular cabs are for the work-oriented buyers and material quality and available features correspond with that fact. However, some optional packages are available and they offer some luxuries.


This version of Ford’s truck is available XL and XLT trims.

Regular Cabs with the XL badge include standard features like 17-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, manual windows, manual mirrors, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cloth upholstery, floor carpeting, etc. Available also are air conditioning, driver information display, a 4.2-inch center display, four speakers, etc.

The XL trim can be upgraded with the package which adds power locks and windows, cruise control, upgraded information display, smartphone integration, voice commands, etc.

The XLT trim adds alloy wheels, fog lights, rear privacy glass, manual lumbar adjustment, carpeting, four-way headrests, etc.

Several additional packages are available with this trim option. Heated mirrors, a trailer hitch, a cargo management system, power pedals, 8-way power driver seat are available with the mid 301A package. The luxury package is also available. It offers rear parking sensors, remote ignition, LED cargo lighting, 10-way power and heated front seats, etc. It also adds an 8-inch screen Sync3 infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

2017 Ford F-150 Regular Cab: Powertrains

The base engine option on the 2017 Ford F-150 Regular Cab is a 3.5-liter V-6 engine. This engine can produce 282 hp and torque 253 pound-feet.

The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 is the first option. It features the modern design with standard stop-start technology. It can deliver 325 hp and torque of 375 lb-ft. This engine is also the most fuel efficient with the rating of around 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

The next option is a 5.0-liter V-8 engine. It is capable of producing 385 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque. All mentioned engines work with the six-speed automatic transmission.

The new turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 comes with the new 10-speed automatic transmission. This advanced engine can produce 375 hp and torque of 470 lb-ft.

The dual-turbo V-6 engine is towing leader with maximum of 12, 200 pounds. The payload champion is the V-8 engine with 3, 300 pounds.
