2017 Jeep Scrambler: Design, Engines, Price

Jeep has been very busy working on many projects. According to many reports, the popular Cherokee will likely get Hellcat-powered version and new Compass is also underway as the replacement of the Patriot and Compass models. But it seems that Jeep is working on more fronts simultaneously and the next generation of the Wrangler will come sometime in 2017. However, there is even more and Jeep will also return the pickup truck in its lineup. In the best-case scenario, the Jeep’s pickup truck might come as the 2017 Jeep Scrambler or later as 2018 model.

What is it?

After many years of speculations, it seems that Jeep finally recognized that it is time to fill its impressive lineup of vehicles with the pickup truck. The popularity of pickup is progressive and Jeep knows that this might be the right moment for its inclusion. Jeep had CJ-8 Scrambler model back in 80’s which included half-cab which transformed into pickup style box. Now, we will get the Wrangler-based pickup truck which might again use Scrambler nameplate or not. However, what is important is that we will finally get the new off-road ready pickup truck.

2017 Jeep Scrambler

2017 Jeep Scrambler: Design, Platfrom

The new Wrangler is coming on the new architecture which will remain the body-on-frame design and this modernized platform will also underpin the new 2017 Jeep Scrambler pickup. The new design will include high-tensile steel frame while lightweight aluminum and plastic will find extensive use in body panels. This will reduce model’s overall weight and will improve its performance and efficiency.

On the other hand, visually, Jeep’s pickup will look much like the new Wrangler model with its front-end design and cabin but with the addition of the cargo box. The new Wrangler and pickup truck will share many design cues the with current version of Wrangle. The models will benefit from brand’s timeless design which will include a slightly revised grille and new Led headlights. The windshield of models will be more slanted which will improve aerodynamics.

We don’t know the cargo box capacity or model’s dimensions and will see what cab styles this model will offer.

Interior:

We don’t know much about model’s interior. It is not clear would Jeep go with refinement and luxuries in truck’s cabin or would continue the rugged design as in the current Wrangler.

What we should expect, are the latest technology features and we expect more advanced safety systems compared to what we get in the actual Wrangler.

2017 Jeep Scrambler: Powertrain

In the powering section of the 2017 Jeep Scrambler, we should expect Chrysler’s 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine. It will be an updated version of the unit that powers the current Wrangler. It should return more power and better fuel efficiency.  Transmission options should include manual unit as well as the new 8-speed automatic gearbox.

However, the V-6 engine should not be the only power option. The new Jeep’s pickup truck, as well as the Wrangler, could also get a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with the output of around 300 hp. What’s more, the models might also get a turbodiesel engine known as the Hurricane.

2017 Jeep Scrambler: Arrival, Price

The 2017 Jeep Scrambler might come in late 2017 and might come as 2018 model as well. It should have higher price tag than the Wrangler starting from around $30, 000.
