Changes, Configurations:

For the 2017 model, Ram continues with some equipment mixing among the trims. It also discontinued the 6-speed automatic transmission and the 8-speed automatic is only available now.

As for the Quad Cab version, it positions between the Regular Cab models with two doors and Crew Cab trucks with full-size rear doors. The Quad Cab style has four doors and seats six people but its doors are smaller than on the Crew Cabs. The Crew Cab version is available with a 6’4” bed length only. This Cab configured models can be equipped with three engine options. There is also a total of 10 available trims for the half-ton Ram truck but the Quad Cab body style excludes two top trims the Laramie Longhorn and Limited as well as the off-road oriented Rebel which are Crew Cab specific.

The exterior design of the 2017 Ram 1500 Quad Cab and other versions hasn’t changed for this model year. It features black, body color or chrome finish and the mesh or slat patterns depending on the version. The interior of this model is highly functional and well-equipped. The lower-spec versions feature good build and material quality and things become better with each upper trim. Trims, Features:

The Quad Cab model comes in Tradesman, Express, HFE, SLT, Big Horn, Sport and Laramie trims. The Rebel, Laramie Longhorn and Limited are reserved for Crew Cabs only.

The base Tradesman models include black bumpers, grille and door handles, 17-inch wheels, a locking tailgate, automatic headlights, a spray-in bedliner, etc. Inside they have vinyl upholstery and floor covering, a tilt steering wheel and features like USB port, six speakers, cruise control, etc.

The next Express version features fog lights, body-colored grille and bumpers, 20-inch wheels, floor mats, etc.

The HFE trim includes stop/start engine feature, 17-inch wheels, black grille and bumper finish, heated mirrors, etc.

If you chose the SLT model, it comes with chrome exterior trim, keyless entry, power functions, a 5-inch infotainment interface, satellite radio and more.

The Big Horn adds cloth upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a ten-way power driver’s seat, remote start, a leather-covered steering wheel, etc. It also includes an upgraded 8.4-inch infotainment system with smartphone compatibility and WiFi hot spot, a rearview camera, etc.

The Sport version comes with body-colored exterior trim, projector headlights, LED taillights, driver information display, 20-inch wheels, etc.

The Laramie has chrome exterior elements, 20-inch wheels, and also adds leather upholstery, wood interior accents, heated and ventilated front seats, ten speakers, etc.

2017 Ram 1500 Quad Cab: Powertrains

The base engine on the 2017 Ram 1500 Quad Cab is a 3.6-liter petrol V-6. It can produce 305 hp and torque of 269 pound-feet. The only available transmission is a six-speed automatic. The rear-wheel drive is standard while the four-wheel drive with either manual or automatic mode is an option.

When equipped with the V-6, the Ram can tow up to 7, 610 pounds and payload limit is 1, 890 pounds. The fuel economy is 20 or 19 mpg combined for the rear- and all-wheel drive respectively.

A 5.7-liter V-8 is an alternative on the Ram 1500. It is good for 395 hp and torque of 410 lb-ft. These output figures provide the towing capacity of 10, 640 pounds but the fuel economy falls to 17 mpg combined.

Available also is a turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine. It has the capacity of producing 240 hp and torque of 420 lb-ft. It returns very good fuel economy, 23 mpg combined with RWD and 22 mpg combined with AWD. With this engine, the towing maximum is 9, 210 pounds and payload 1600 pounds.
