General Motors is blessing us with another big pickup, it is the brand new 2023 Chevy Silverado Z71. This is just in time to compete with other creations from various manufacturers. Silverado has been around for quite a while. It had many redesigns and updates in recent years. And this is for the better, each time the big Chevy truck was better and stronger. This time around we expect the same trend to continue. So look out for Chevy to give the right toolset to their flagship to win the hearts of buyers. Also we will take a look at a specific trim package. We are of course talking about Z71.
This is one of the packages centered around off-roading. Chevy used this trim on several trucks and with great success. We will probably see a lot of changes on the inside. The cabin’s style has been outdated and is due for an update. The exterior is about to change as well with the contemporary style changing very often. 2023 Chevy Silverado Z71 Interior
The cabin of the 2023 Chevy Silverado Z71 looks amazing. They did a great job at updating style and improving the design. We get a big infotainment screen in the middle of the instrument panel. It is 14 inches in size. Has all the standard connectivity and applications. Seating is better cushioned, especially since Z71 goes off-road and you need it. Heated and ventilated seats are standard at this point. The dashboard is also digital which is a nice step towards the future. This way we can customize everything and track all the important information. There are plenty of safety features incorporated into the 2023 Chevy Silverado Z71. Also hands-free driving is probably going to be standard on this version of the pickup.
Exterior Changes
On the outside, the 2023 Chevy Silverado Z71 looks as it should. Angry and aggressive, you need that look to take on the wild path. This trim adds a lot of off-roading package goodies. The front mesh is black and has a lot of air intake. Engines are big so it is best to cool them down properly. Headlights are in the S shape and use the latest LED technology. Hoods are sporty with an air intake as well. There are winches and hooks on the bumpers. They are prominent and protrude. But don’t worry about getting stuck on obstacles, they have good approach angles.
Rims are 20-inch lightweight aluminum and with Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires. They are made for the off-road and just what this trim needed. The truck has Multimatic dampers and front and rear blockers. Colors include Dark Ash Metallic, Red Hot, Glacier Blue Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic, Summit White, Black, Northsky Blue Metallic and Sand Dune.
Engine and Specs
There are several engines on offer for the 2023 Chevy Silverado Z71. First up we have a 2.7-liter turbo four engine. This is paired with automatic transmission and is able to achieve 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. These are good numbers for a small caliber engine like this one. It speeds up to sixty miles per hour in 7.1 seconds. Considering the sheer size of the Silverado this is again good. Next up we have a 5.3 liter V8. This uses a 10-speed automatic transmission and needs 6.4 seconds to sixty. It achieves this with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque.
We also get a choice of 6.2 liter V8. Also 10-speed automatic but only 5.5 seconds till sixty. This is impressive for a truck this size. It produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. We also get a 3.0-liter turbodiesel I-6. This uses a 10-speed automatic transmission as well and needs 7.6 seconds to sixty. It produces 277 horsepower and a whopping 460 pound-feet of torque. This torque comes in handy while off-roading especially. We know that the Z71 trim is used for off-roading and we see a good pairing with the 3.0 turbo diesel engine.
It is strange that no hybrid variants are available, or fully electric versions. The hybrid variant would add an electric motor that could boost performance. Both in terms of fuel economy and horsepower. Electric trucks aren’t science fiction anymore, Ford has made it real with their F-150 Lightning. So it is a bit strange that Chevy didn’t try to make one with their Silverado. Perhaps they are working on it and planning for the future. A battery pack with 150 kWh should be enough for 300 miles. Fast charging and peer-to-peer charging is standard nowadays as well.
2023 Chevy Silverado Z71 Gas Mileage
Silverado is not the best truck if you are looking to cut down on fuel spending. The 2.7-liter turbo four gets 16-19mpg in the city and 16-21 mpg on the highway. The 5.3-liter V8 gets 14-16 mpg in the city and 18-22mpg on the highway. The big 6.2 liter V8 can go 13-15 mpg in the city and 17-20 mpg on the highway. While the small 3.0-liter turbodiesel gets 20-23 mpg in the city and 23-31mpg on the open road.
Price and Release Date
We expect the 2023 Chevy Silverado Z71 to drop later this year. Perhaps earlier in 2023 if there are still supply chain issues. Price depends heavily on the trim you choose. WT trim costs $35600, Custom trim costs $42600, LT will stand you $46700 while Custom Trail Boss is $50500.
