Jeep is working on the new generation of its iconic, go-anywhere Wrangler model which will again be available in two- and four-door Unlimited versions. The expectations are high and Wrangler’s fans are expecting that Jeep’s off-roader will preserve its timeless identity and exceptional capability but will also follow modern trends as far as possible. However, FCA also promised Wrangler-based pickup truck which should enter production alongside with the Wrangler model late this year in brand’s plant in Toledo, Ohio. The new 2018 Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck could make its debut at 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show and we expect more details about both model closer to their introduction.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck: Design

At the time of writing this text, Jeep is still very successful in hiding details about the Wrangler and its pickup version. However, thanks to spotted prototypes of both models and leaked information we can have an idea about how this model will look. In that context, these models won’t be a big surprise which is actually a good thing. Jeep won’t change radically the look of the new Wrangler and the pickup truck which should be based on its Unlimited version will share very similar styling. Actually, truck’s front side and all way back to the rearmost pillars of the model should be identical to the Wrangler Unlimited while in the rear area it will get a mid-sized bed.

So, the evolutionary changes, compared to the Current Wrangler version will be seen on truck’s front end. It will again feature round headlights and Jeep’s tall seven-slot grille. The model will also have familiar Wangler’s doors with exposed door hinges and squared taillights. What should be different is more raked windshield.  Jeep might also introduce a three-piece hardtop which can be partially or fully removed.

On the other hand, what’s more important and can’t be seen by the eye is the structural improvements which the new Wrangler and its based truck should feature. The 2018 Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck will sit on Wrangler’s new architecture which will continue in the body-on-frame form. The frame of the model will be made of the high-tensile steel. However, with the usage of aluminum and plastic for the body panels it will save some weight.

Interior, features:

Interior of the model will likely get fresh material and improved infotainment features compared to the current Wrangler model. The dash design should also be slightly changed and the inclusion of some advanced driver’s aids is the possibility.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck: Powertrains

In the engine department, the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck and Wangler SUV should offer several options. A familiar and proven 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 should again be available with the manual transmission and likely improved performance. However, a new ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission is also expected. The list should continue with the new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This unit could produce as much as 300 horsepower.

On the other hand, a diesel-powered Wrangler is also in the cards. It could be a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel making around 240 hp and torque of 420 pound-feet. The model will come with full-time four-wheel drive and possibly with the rear-wheel drive. Expect also some improvements on Wrangler’s suspension system which will reflect on the pickup truck version as well.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck: Arrival, Price

Expectations are that new 2018 Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck would debut by the end of this year. It may debut at the next Los Angeles Auto Show. In that case, the sales could begin in early months of 2018. However, some sources indicate that Wrangler truck will arrive in 2019 as Jeep has been busy with many new models. In any case, this truck will appear soon or later. The price estimation suggests the base models from around $30, 000.
