Toyota updated the full-size Tundra for the 2018 year model. Tundra benefits from some styling refreshments including an updated mesh grille and new billet grille for the Limited and 1794 Edition trims. All Tundras are also safer thanks to now standard Safety Sense suite of active safety systems. But, Toyota also brought a new and exciting trim to the lineup, the TRD Sport. The 2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport boasts unique styling and interior. It also includes some running gear enhancements for better handling. On the other hand, Toyota discontinued the Regular Cab version.
2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport: Styling
The new 2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport will be easily recognizable among other Tundras thanks to the unique styling elements and trim. The model has black mesh grille with body color surround. The grille sits between LED headlights with smoked housings. Bumpers and mirrors come in the body color and hood scoop also adds more aggressive tone to this version. Toyota further distinguished this version with nice, silver 20-inch alloy wheels. The model also includes the fog lights and daytime running lights.
The list of colors for the TRD Pro includes Magnetic Gray, Super White, Blazing Blue Pearl, Midnight Black Pearl and Barcelona Red Metallic.
Interior, Safety:
The TRD Sport version will be available in Crew Max and Double Cab body styles. Cabins will offer a comfortable ride and Toyota will also add some unique details. This version will have TRD Sport exclusive floor mats and shift knob. It will also include brand’s latest Entune infotainment system and premium sound system.
Like all versions, this one will also get the suite of active safety systems. Toyota Safety Sense P-suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking.
2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport: Powertrain
Toyota won’t offer the new 2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport with the smaller 4.6-liter V-8 engine. This version only gets a more powerful 5.7-liter V-8 engine. However, you will have the chance to choose between the 4×2 and 4×4 configurations. The V-8 engine can produce 381 hp and torque of 401 lb-ft. The only transmission is a six-speed automatic.
The fuel economy should remain at 13/18 mpg city/highway with the 4X2 configuration or 13/17 mpg with the 4X4.
On the other hand, the TRD Sport will also get some suspension enchantments. The sport-tuned suspension setup with Bilstein dampers and upgraded sway bars should provide better on-road handling.
Release Date, Price
The refreshed Tundra alongside with the new 2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport will be available this September. Toyota hasn’t said the price of this model.
