2024 Chevy Colorado Might Get an Electric Version

The new generation of the mid-size truck is here. It introduced numerous changes, but kept the diesel engine and a trim level for an extreme off-road drive. Both the interior and exterior of the truck will get a refreshed look. However, the 2024 Chevy Colorado is about to bring an electric version, eventually. That makes it more than worth of waiting.

The price of the next-gen truck went up. The good thing is that 2024 YM is not bringing any changes, so the MSRP stays put.

Diesel Engine and SpecsĀ

Diesel motors are not that common in America but Chevy will offer Colorado in a turbo-diesel powertrain variant. A less powerful powertrain will be found in the base trims, and that is a 2.5-liter petrol motor that will produce 230 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque and can tow up to 3,600 pounds. You can get this motor in Work Truck and LT trims. With more expensive and better-equipped models comes a 2.8 turbodiesel engine that can produce up to 200 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque and can tow up to 7,700 pounds.

This powertrain will be available for Z71, RST, and Prime. For the ZR2 package, there is only one option and that is the strongest gasoline V-6 3.6-liter with 310 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque. Paired with the strongest motor, the 2024 Chevy Colorado can tow up to 7.000 pounds. This will be the highest number among rivals in the mid-size pickup category. All powertrains options will be paired with an upgraded 10-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive comes as an additional option on some trims.

2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 BisonĀ

At the end of 2023, GM will introduce the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison. And it will be the ultimate off-road mid-sized pickup truck. It will be made on the GMT 31XX platform and it will be equipped with a V-6 3.6-liter with 380 hp and 390 pound-feet of torque under the hood. The towing capacity of this trim will be 7,000 pounds. It will compete against the Ford Ranger, if it gets the Raptor version, as the most capable offroading truck on the market. The truck will stand on huge 35-inch tires with a 17-inch rim. The Colorado ZR2 Bison is coming equipped with a front wrench, and side rock crawlers, and on the front, it will have a skid plate.

Also, it will be raised by 3 inches from normal Colorado and the front bumper will be made from metal. The only available cab option will be a Crew Cab. The interior of the Colorado ZR2 Bison will stay nearly the same as last year’s ZR2 with a small revision of the center console with an improved and larger 12-inch touch screen and the same size but software revised digital cluster. Additional equipment will include a sunroof, 360 degrees camera, and a 1st-time camera under the truck so you can see obstacles you are approaching and crawling over. In standard equipment, the truck will come with a heated steering wheel and leather seats.
All-wheel drive, and electronically controlled front, and rear differentials are just a part of standard equipment. The new model will likely have upgraded suspension.
The price of 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison trim will start at $45.000 and go up to $60.000.

Colorado EV

With the Chevy Silverado and Sierra EV, GM has already announced full-size electric trucks. It doesn’t stop there, however. A fully electric mid-size truck called the Colorado EV will be introduced in 2024. A modified version of the GM BT1 platform that was used in the GMC Canyon Electric will be used for the truck. A choice of two powertrains will be available. The stronger option has two engines delivering 350 horsepower and 400 pounds-feet of torque and can tow up to 6,000 pounds, while the weaker option has one motor that delivers 250 horsepower and 270 pounds-feet of torque.

Both powertrains will be available with all-wheel drive. According to GM rumors, the Colorado EV will be offered in multiple battery configurations, ranging from 250 kWh to 370 kWh. Depending on battery configuration and powertrain options, the truck can travel up to 350 miles. In all systems, the truck will support fast charging that can deliver up to 100 miles of range in just 20 min of charge. The car’s look is not yet known, but it could be a scaled-down version of the Silverado. The truck will gain a more subtle look than Silverado.

The price of the truck will start at $38,000 and go to $45,000. The release date is not yet known but we expect GM to introduce Colorado EV at the end of 2024. With this starting price of the Colorado EV, it will be the cheapest fully electrical GM truck. It should compete against GMC Canyon EV, and Ford Ranger EV.
