2024 Chevy Silverado HD Models: 2500 and 3500

Big pickups are dropping from the sky, we are getting a new 2024 Chevy Silverado HD. The heavy-duty pickups aren’t the most popular ones. But they are clutch when you need them. They are a means to an end and a true workhorse. But those who often tow and haul cargo, simply must have a good working pickup. There will be several trims available for the upcoming Silverado. However, the changes that this year’s remodel will bring, are still uncertain. We are expecting a lot from the Silverado HD. The competition is getting fiercer and there are several great heavy-duty trucks on the market.

So in order to come out on top, Chevy needs to use all of its tools to equip the Silverado and allow it to come out on top. We can expect some upgrades on the inside of the truck. Style and technology are a bit outdated and they could use a refresh. Also, the exterior might receive some minor tweaks. But nothing too drastic per reports. The powertrain is a big mystery still. Chevy isn’t too loud about their innovations so we will have to wait and see what rolls off the production track. Let’s see the whole picture of the Silverado.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Specs and Towing Capacity

The upcoming 2024 Chevy Silverado HD is one hell of a pickup. It will also come with several powertrains on offer. And we know that many fans are going to love these options. Some people argue that more options are better, simply due to the ability to fill a different work role. And we must agree on that note. So the Silverado HD will use a 6.6-liter V8 that runs on gasoline. This beast of an engine is already proven and has a good track record. It can produce 400 horses and 450 pound-feet of torque.

Diesel Engine

There is also going to be a diesel option. And we know how much pickup lovers love a good diesel engine. It offers a lot of benefits including better fuel economy, more torque, and overall better performance. The downside of diesel engines is their huge carbon footprint and the pollution they leave behind them. Some folks simply don’t care about this as they use the pickup for work and can’t be bothered. The Duramax diesel engine is also a 6.6-liter V8 with 470 horses and 1000 pound-feet of torque. This is double the wheel spinning than from the regular gasoline engine. Both engines are paired with 10 speed Allison automatic gearbox.

There is an option for rear and four-wheel drive. And we suspect that most people will be more interested in the four-wheel option as it offers much better traction and control over difficult terrain. There is a new adaptable suspension that should make every ride more comfortable. So bumpy off-roading won’t be as harsh as it used to be. Locking differentials are also incorporated which is an excellent feature. Although the gasoline engine is a powerful one, we believe that the Duramax takes the crown here. Transmission is very responsive and handling is electronically assisted. This means that response time is lowered and you will have much better steering than you used to.

Electric Heavy-Duty Truck

That being said, what does the future hold for heavy-duty pickups? Some manufacturers have already implemented green powertrains into their pickups. We believe that Chevy is planning to do the same thing with their fleet. But it won’t happen this time around. But a new platform and architecture would need to be put in the Silverado. This will allow them to incorporate all the electrical components. Everything would be moved under the cabin for better balance and handling. A big battery would be needed though. We saw that the new Cybertruck is using 300 kWh which is a whole lot. So we might see something similar used by Chevy in the future. The towing capacity for the Silverado is 18000 pounds and 7500 pounds of hauling.

Fuel economy

There are no official fuel economy numbers for the new 2024 Chevy Silverado HD. But we suspect it will be thirsty. Not the diesel engine to be more precise. Expect under 20 mpg for the combined type of driving. These numbers would obviously be improved by a hybrid engine. Not to mention what kind of benefits would full electrification have in this regard.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Interior

The cabin of the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD is fresh. The seating has new leather upholstery and better cushioning. This is especially important for pickups that are workhorses as bumpy rides take a toll on your spine. There might be a massaging feature on higher trims as well. Infotainment is unchanged but the dashboard is fully digital. There is a lane change alert, pedestrian detection, cameras, and sensors all around the pickup for easier towing. Also, hands-free driving is implemented which is a great asset.

Exterior

The outside of the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD looks quite similar to the previous version. Bumpers are prominent and they protrude. This keeps the aggressive and menacing look the Silverado always had. Big 19-inch rims are lightweight and shiny. The front fascia is also aluminum as well and it shaves off some weight to improve power to weight ratio. Which is always a good trade for working pickups. Cargo bed is standard size and there is hook and winch capability.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Price

We are expecting the fresh 2024 Chevy Silverado HD later this year, probably the last quarter. The price is variable, depending on the trim you choose. Work Truck is $42000, LT trim is $46000, Custom is $47000, LTZ is $55000, High Country is $69000 and ZR2 is $80000. These are all estimates of course and we will have to wait a bit for exact numbers. Competition is fierce and Silverado will need to do a lot to come out on top. Prices are very similar to rivals – Ram HD and Ford Super Duty class.
