The GMC Sierra HD trucks are comfortable, quiet and capable heavy-duty models available in many configuration options. For the 2017 model year, the heavy-duty haulers received the upgraded V-8 turbodiesel engine combined with the more efficient cooling system including the hood-mounted air intake. For the 2018 version, GMC introduced the standard rereview camera and a 7-inch touchscreen as well as the new grille for the Denali trim. As for the 2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD, we should again expect some changes in the equipment organization and package options. For the more notable changes, we will have to wait a year or two as the HD models will get the full redesign in a year or two after the launch of the redesigned, light-duty Sierra 1500.
The Sierra 1500 will break the covers soon and the redesigned heavy-duty versions will benefit from the similar upgrades when they arrive. The light-duty truck will be heavily updated rather than we will see the full redesign but will introduce upgrades on all fronts. The same strategy GM will apply to the HD series.
2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD: Styling
The 2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD models won’t change the way they look and handle. These heavy-duty models will return in the familiar form with the somewhat more conservative style than what we can see on the rival models. The Sierra HD trucks will carry tall grilles and sharp corners combined with creased fenders will further define the look of the models. They will get unique treatment of the grille and specific inserts for almost every trim level.
GM will again offer these models in three cab styles and with long and standard cargo bed options. The changes will include new color options and possibly special edition version.
The cabins of the GMC HD truck will also carry over in the same form while some changes will happen in the equipment organization. The crew cab versions will provide plenty of space while all versions will have supportive front seats.
The base versions will start with the cloth upholstery and 17-inch wheels but they will also include the rearview camera and 7-inch infotainment interface. The higher-spec versions will add upgraded infotainment features, better materials, dual-zone automatic climate control, power and heating features, etc. Available will also be off-road ready packages. The Sierra HD will also offer some of the active safety systems like front and rear parking assistant, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, etc.
2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD: Powertrains
For the 2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD, a pair of V-8 engine options will again be on the offer. The base engine under the hood will be a 6.0-liter V-8 gas powered unit. This engine produces 360 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque.
A recently upgraded 6.6-liter V-8 turbodiesel will be more powerful options. This engine delivers 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. It uses a different version of the six-speed automatic transmission while the base engine also comes with the unique six-gear automatic.
As for the hauling and trailering capabilities, they should stay at the familiar levels. The 2500HD will allow up to the 18, 100 lbs of towing capacity and the payload limit above 3, 500 lbs. The 3500HD will rise the trailering capacity to 23, 300 lbs in its the most capable version. The payload maximum will be above 7, 000 lbs.
2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD: Arrival, Price
