2019 Mercedes X-Class Pickup Truck: Changes, Specs

The Mercedes X-Class is brand’s push to the lucrative one-ton pickup truck segment and this model debuted in July 2017 as the 2018 model. The model competes with likes of the Ford Ranger, VW Amarok, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi L200 and sister model Nissan Navara. For the first model year the model offers two diesel options and with upgraded chassis and suspension of the global Navara, the X-Class delivers great ride comfort. The model also boasts strong off-road ability and class-leading technology.

The current X-Class truck uses Nissan’s turbo-diesel four engines but the 2019 Mercedes X-Class Pickup Truck should bring a new X350d version and Mercedes-built V-6 turbodiesel engine combined with the 7-speed automatic transmission. That will be the most notable upgrade for the 2019 version while other changes will be equipment related.

2019 Mercedes X-Class Pickup Truck: Design

As we know Mercedes hasn’t built its X-Class model from the ground up. This model uses the proven underpinning of the global Navara pickup truck. Mercedes, however, has done some strengthening to the chassis and retuned the suspension. The track of the model is also widened for better ride comfort and better interior comfort.

On the other hand, the X-class has Mercedes-specific look similar to brand’s SUVs but, of course, with the cargo bed at the rear. The big three-pointed star sits in the middle of model’s two-slat grille and nice headlights are on each side. The hood has subtle creases and the model also bears big front bumper and sculpted fenders. The rear has the simple tailgate and slim vertical-oriented taillights.

The 2019 Mercedes X-Class Pickup Truck version won’t bring substantial visual changes. Expect new color options and possibly new exterior theme.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside the cabin, the X-Class uses a familiar design from brand’s passenger cars. The dashboard shape, center display, gauges, HVAC controls, COMAND infotainment platform are familiar from brand’s other models. The model comes in the base, not upmarket trim with hard plastic surfaces but with modern tech systems and active safety rig. The upper trims improve with upgraded upholstery and visual niceties inside and out.

For the new model year, Mercedes will likely add more standard features and new top trim is also possible.

2019 Mercedes X-Class Pickup Truck: Powertrains

The biggest upgrade for the 2019 Mercedes X-Class Pickup Truck version should be the addition of the X350d 4Matic model. This variant will be powered by brand’s 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 engine. This engine will provide 254 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. It will work in the combination with the 7-speed automatic gearbox and permanent all-wheel drive. This combo should push the X-Class to 60 mph in less than 9 seconds.

Two current powertrain options will also be available. The entry-level X220d will have Nissan’s 2.3-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with the single turbocharger. This engine produces 161 hp and torque of 297 lb-ft. The X250d has the same displacement but with the bi-turbo setup. This version makes 187 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes will offer both engines with the six-speed manual gearbox. The X250d will have the alternative in the 7-speed automatic transmission.
