2019 Mitsubishi Triton: Fresh Styling, Changes

While in the US buyers favorize the full-size trucks, the global market is inclined toward the mid-size models and this market is constantly growing. The models are becoming more stylish and luxuriously equipped and the carmakers don’t hesitate to update the models annually.

Mitsubishi is also the strong contender in the market and the Triton or in some markets L200 model is the good value for the money. The Fiat-badged Fullback is also derived from the Triton model. The Triton competes with the redesigned Ford Ranger which also has now the Raptor version and there are also the refreshed VW Amarok, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, etc.

The Triton was redesigned in 2015 and still keeps the bar high in class. The model is in the line with the class leaders in the towing category thanks to the 2018 model year updates when it also received the updated infotainment system. However, it seems that Mitsubishi doesn’t waste the time and the model was spotted while testing ahead of the closing launch for the new model year.

The camouflaged 2019 Mitsubishi Triton tries to hide its refreshed styling but some changes are obvious especially in the front section. The model also has the tweaked rear side elements and we should also expect new details inside the cabin. The model will likely upgrade the safety equipment and the running rig should also benefit from some improvements.

2019 Mitsubishi Triton: Tweaked Styling

The redesigned Triton arrived the all-new in 2015 and it is one of the most recognizable designs in the market. The shape of the truck is somewhat different from the class average and the truck is the owner of the largest rear overhang in the class. It also has the unique front fascia with the grille which doesn’t fit with the brand’s latest design we can see on the most recent models.

And the front section is where the most of changes will be seen on the refreshed 2019 Mitsubishi Triton. The model switches from the current design to the “Dynamic shield” theme which defines other models in the range.

This new design occupies the most of the front section and comes with the new slimmer, swept-back headlights. The lower front side area also gets the new fog lights.

On the other hand, bellow the camouflage, the prototype seems to have the same contours and lines on the profile side and the rear. We can recognize, the massive rear overhang, tall character line and rising widow line. However, the shape of the fenders also looks different from the current round form and seem more squared-off.

On the rear side, the tailgate seems familiar but the taillights look taller and with the slightly different graphic.

Interior:

As for the interior, we should expect some tweaks as well but we don’t have the pictures of the cabin. The model will likely benefit from fresh materials, new textures and likely improved sound insulation. The Triton will likely move upmarket with the new options and more models becoming luxuriously equipped.

Options, Equipment:

Mitsubishi hasn’t yet revealed the equipment list but the refreshed Triton will again appear in many options and specifications. The trio of cab options will return and trucks will be equipped from the base work form to high luxurious options. The upper grades will also add unique trim details.

For the new model year, the Triton will offer more standard equipment and we should expect new active safety systems to appear as recently upgraded rivals have gained them.

2019 Mitsubishi Triton: Performance

When it comes to practicality and capability, Mitsubishi reinforced the chassis for the last model year to allow higher towing limit matching the class best 3, 500 kg. The payload limit is 1, 050 kg.

On the other hand, the 2019 Mitsubishi Triton will also likely make some adjustments to the suspension system to further tune the riding quality. The deeper, structural improvements are not expected.

The 2019 Mitsubishi Triton will also reappear with the four-cylinder diesel engine. The modern design, variable turbocharger geometry engine appeared with the new-generation version. A 2.4-liter MIVEC four-cylinder diesel with the aluminum construction, variable valve timing and common-rail injection provides great performance and efficiency. The engine meets Euro 6 emission standards and now comes in two versions. The lower spec models get 151 hp and higher grades improve to 178 hp and 430 Nm of torque. However, some improvements are possible as well as the new 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Triton will also offer the base models with the Easy Select part-time 4×4 system. A more sophisticated the Super Select active four-wheel drive setup will be available with the higher value versions.

2019 Mitsubishi Triton: Arrival, Price

The refreshed 2019 Mitsubishi Triton will debut later in the year. Closer to that date, we will know more details and the price which should stay close to the current range.
