2020 Ford F-150 Diesel: Specs, Price

The diesel battle is again actual in the pickup industry and Ford dethroned a recently all-new, heavy-duty Ram which was the first to hit a magical 1000 pound-feet of torque. Ford’s upgraded 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 diesel can now produce 475 hp and max torque of 1050 pound-feet while can tow up to 37, 000 pounds in the most capable configuration. However, the diesel units proliferated also in the light-duty pickup segment. Ram was first with the diesel unit on the offer and Ford added it for the 2019 model year. The new-generation half-ton Silverado, Sierra and Ram 1500 can also be had with the diesel engine under the hood.

The Blue Oval brand will offer the 2020 Ford F-150 Diesel in most trims starting from the XLT version. For the 2020 model year, the best-selling truck comes with the new appearance packages in the XL, XLT and Lariat trims. Every half-ton F-150 will come with 4G LTE hotspot from now and new for the 2020 version is also the Co-Pilot 360 safety suite on the Lariat and trims above.

Ford is also caught testing the new-generation F-150 which should appear for the 2021 model year. The redesigned, light-duty Ford will offer an all-electric version and much larger touchscreen option to rival the new Ram 1500. More details about the upgrades of the next F-150 will appear closer to the debut.

2020 Ford F-150 Diesel: Performance

Powering the 2020 Ford F-150 Diesel is a 3.0-liter Power Stroke V-6 turbodiesel engine combined with the smooth 10-speed automatic transmission. This combination delivers 250 hp at 3, 250 rpm and peak torque of 440 pound-feet available at just 1, 750 rpm. The diesel unit is smooth and quiet providing low-end confidence. However, the diesel unit isn’t impressive in towing and fuel economy as was expected before the introduction.

The F-150 equipped with the Power Stroke Diesel can tow up to 11, 400 pounds and provide up to 30 mpg highway. The payload limit is 1, 940 pounds. The EPA ratings with the rear-wheel-drive setup are 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highways. With the four-wheel drive, there will be a significant drop in the fuel economy to 20 mpg city and 25 highways.

How the F-150 Diesel rates against the competition:

The new generation Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra offers also the turbodiesel unit and all-new Ram 1500 introduced also the new-generation EcoDiesel unit.

The new Ram 1500 EcoDiesel rates better than rivals in torque, towing and price. Ram hasn’t yet talked about the fuel economy. The new-gen 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 makes 260 hp while can deliver up to 480 pound-feet of torque. The Ram Diesel will also provide the best-in-class towing of 12, 560 pounds.

GM’s new 3.0-liter Duramax inline-6 turbodiesel makes the best-in-class horsepower of 277 while the peak torque is 460 pound-feet. The Duramax powered Silverado can tow up to 9, 300 pounds. The numbers are better for the fuel economy where Duramax diesel promises 23 mpg city and 33 mpg highway with the two-wheel drive.
