Ford introduces a long list of upgrades for the 2020 F-Super Duty Series. As the part of the mid-cycle update, the heavy-duty haulers come with the enhanced styling, interior, mechanics and technology. The most attention grabbed a new 7.3-liter petrol engine which should be the payload champ but there is also a new 10-speed automatic transmission available with all engine options. A 6.2-liter V-8 remains the base engine while the mighty Power Stroke Diesel benefits from the major upgrade as well.

Ford will also provide additional tech features with the refreshed F-Super Series and the heavy-duty models get a class-exclusive Pro Trailer Backup Assist which is already available on the best-selling, light-duty F-150. The fans of the off-road adventures will also like a new off-road-oriented Tremor package which adds a long list of the upgrades. The package will be available with all engines while will skip the XL and Lariat trims.    

The new 7.3-liter V8 petrol engine promises the best-in-class payload capability but the towing champ will remain a 6.7-liter Power Stroke Diesel unit. The oil burner comes with the comprehensive list of upgrades but Ford still keeps the ratings from the public. The three-quarter-ton 2020 Ford F-250 Diesel will provide more than 18, 500 pounds of towing capability and comes with the single rear wheel setup only while the dually mode will demand F-350. Still, the F-250 Diesel will satisfy the towing demand of most buyers and get points for more manageable size.

The part of the battle for the dominance and prestige in the heavy-duty class is, of course, related to the towing capability but the Torque war is also actual. Ram recently hit the magical 1000 pound-feet of torque with the upgraded Cummins Diesel engine while Chevy returned with a max torque of 910 pound-feet. Ford hasn’t yet revealed how the upgrades of the Power Stroke Diesel engine will reflect on the horsepower and torque ratings. Ford promised that revised diesel will manage more than current 450 hp and torque of 935 pound-feet.

Ram doesn’t offer the most capable 1000 pound-feet setup with the three-quarter-ton version as it was the case with the previous generation of the model. The Blue Oval brand makes the 935 pound-feet 6.7-liter turbocharged V-8 diesel available with the F-250 and the torquiest combo will also be available with the updated 2020 version.

In order to get the best from the Power Stroke mill, Ford made significant upgrades to the engine’s design. The engine will come with the upgraded turbocharger and higher-strength internal parts. Ford reworked also the fuel injection system to provide better combustion and reduce working noise. The engine will also be paired to the new 10-speed automatic transmission. It’s not clear yet what upgrade-level of these improvements will be on the engine’s performance compared to the current 450 hp and peak torque of 935 pound-feet.

New Tremor package:

The improved diesel engine will be available in the combination with the new, off-road Tremor package. The newly added package will improve the off-road capability of the model with a limited-slip Dana front differential, a locking rear differential, cruise control and a rock-crawl mode. The stabilizer bars and suspension are also adjusted for the off-road performance. The suspension setup comes with the twin-tube shocks with 1.7-inch thick pistons. The package provides also a 2.0-inch front lift, 35-inch all-terrain tires and skid plates.

The 2020 Ford F-250 Diesel and other Super Duty versions benefit also form some cosmetic and functional modifications.

The models get refreshed front-end design comprised of the new grille and front bumper. The new design of elements has a visual effect but Ford also focused to improve the airflow with the new grille and bumper design. The dually F-350 get even larger grille for greater airflow. The trucks also add new taillights and fresh-style tailgate.

The interior remains pretty much the same except the top-range trim which adds several new details. The Limited trim gets additional leather surfaces combined with black ash wood pieces and new headliner.

The new Super Duty truck will also be well-equipped from the base version. Every truck will include 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, Sync touchscreen interface, etc. The range of active safety systems will also be available on XLT trim and above. The new F-150-sourced Pro Trailer Backup Assist system will also help the driver while parking and towing.
