New 2020 Ford Ranger: Specs, Diesel, Hybrid, Rumors and Release Date

The 2020 Ford Ranger could get new diesel and hybrid engines for the U.S. market.

You can bet that the Ford F-150 will retain its spot as the best-selling full-size pickup truck in the U.S. However when it comes to the mid-size segment, Blue Oval made a huge mistake when withdrew the Ranger pickup in 2011. In that time, the mid-size segment was packed with aging models so this decision makes perfect sense.

Now, the 2020 Ford Ranger is offering versatility and amazing performances. The new model will get a hybrid drivetrain and even the high-performance Raptor version will be available. Jeep Gladiator is about to arrive and Ranger needs to step up its game.

The all-new 2020 Ford Ranger will continue to use the global-market platform and it will be uniquely designed for the U.S. market. The mid-size pickup truck is offering a conservative look and functional design. There will be at least three trim levels and at least two body configurations. That includes the Super Crew and Super Cab body styles. Numerous packages will be in the offer such as Sport or Chrome package. FX2 and FX4 packages are improving off-road capabilities. The base model will pay more attention to the functionality but the Lariat trim level is more luxurious.

For the start, the 2020 Ford Ranger will offer more interior room than most of its mid-size competitors. The cabin is very comfortable and upscale. Super Crew cab models are offering room for five passengers. You can opt for the optional front bucket seats and other premium amenities such as B&O audio system. The global model is offering an 8.0-inch display as standard, along with the SYNC3 infotainment system. That means Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard as well. A console-mounted gear shifter is still present and generally, Ranger comes with a very modern cabin.

2020 Ford Ranger Engine Specs

The mid-size pickup truck is offering only one engine option. A four-cylinder engine is the only engine choice which seems like a risky move from the Blue Oval.

Most of the competitors are offering larger V6 units but Ford is obviously willing to risk. It is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates 270 horses and 310 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel-drive setup and 10-speed automatic transmission are standard.

Latest rumors are suggesting a hybrid drivetrain as well. The same four-cylinder unit will be mated to a single electric motor and battery pack. Total output will be surely rated at over 300 horsepower. However, fuel economy will see a huge boost.

Ford Ranger Diesel Spied in the U.S.

The Motor1 has announced that Ford Ranger diesel is spied in the U.S. The truth is that Ranger for the European market gets an improved diesel engine. The single turbo 2.0-liter engine is available with 130 hp and 170 hp. The 2.0-liter twin-turbo engine comes with 210 hp. All-wheel drive option is standard, and these powertrains can be paired with 10-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.

The midsize diesel pickups are more and more popular lately. Beside Ranger diesel, the Toyota is also considering diesel version of Tacoma.

This new midsize diesel pickup truck will have to face tough competition: Jeep Gladiator, Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are the best diesel trucks on the market in this time.
