2024 Jeep Gladiator Hybrid and Magneto Electric Truck

We are getting another great truck, the 2024 Jeep Gladiator is coming soon. The current iteration of the Jeep Gladiator is that old. It was only recently that the pickup was updated and improved a lot. The current Gladiator is not the best-selling pickup on the market. The competition is fierce and numerous, so we gotta give it that. But the Gladiator does fill a certain niche when it comes to trucks. It is built with off-roading in mind and it does that well. So it is especially adored by adventure enthusiasts.

The mid-size segment is where this pickup falls in nicely. However, this category is getting crowded as well, so Jeep has to up its game in order to stay on top. It does have a classic and much sought-after Jeep look. But one place where the Gladiator could use updates is the interior. The technology is outdated and styling simply doesn’t match the contemporary needs of buyers. So addressing that concern might give much buy appeal to the Jeep pickup. The powertrain is a big question mark, there are some rumors of electrification but do we see the Gladiator as a battery ran vehicle? Let’s take a look at the whole picture of the upcoming pickup.

2024 Jeep Gladiator Interior and Exterior Changes

The updated 2024 Jeep Gladiator is improved on the inside. This is a much-needed change towards bringing more buy appeal to the pickup. New stylish leather-lined seating is available. Along with contrast stitching, this brings a certain dose of luxury to the Gladiator. There are body and roof panels that are easily removed as on many other Jeep vehicles. The pickup has 4 doors and can seat 5 passengers. So the Gladiator can be a convertible if you wish so. The infotainment is unchanged, however, the dashboard is fully digital. There is a plethora of safety technology implemented. This includes automatic brakes, lane change alerts, and hands-free driving.

The outside of the 2024 Jeep Gladiator is looking similar to the previous iteration. There are big 18 inch wheel rims that are lightweight. They are of course wrapped with all-terrain tires which come in handy. The cargo bed is 5 feet long which is the standard and there is a multifunctional tailgate. The body design is the classic Jeep, and we wouldn’t want that to change. As already mentioned the roof and doors can be taken off. The front grille is shiny and big with enough air intakes to cool the big engine down.

Engine and Specs

One thing that is sure about the new 2024 Jeep Gladiator, is that it will take on difficult terrain. It is in its job description and it excels at tackling such obstacles. This puts Jeep in a heavy predicament, as they have to have a powerful powertrain that has good horsepower and amazing torque. Torque comes in handy, especially in not-perfect environments. This includes sand, snow, and mud. For those who prefer a lot of choices, the Gladiator might not be a perfect fit.

There is going to be a 2.0-liter engine. It is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with eight-speed automatic transmission. It is very powerful and it can produce 375 horsepower along with 470 pound-feet of torque. With this powertrain, the new Gladiator is quite ready to take on the wild path. The torque is a big selling point as many other additions such as newly designed shock absorbers and underbody armor protect the vehicle’s parts.

2024 Jeep Gladiator 4xe PHEV

Although this engine is powerful on its own, it does get a bit of help from a friend. It is paired with a PHEV hybrid unit which is newly added to the Gladiator. It gets an additional two electric motors which is the sweet spot, the single-motor units simply fall short on performance. Each motor delivers power to a single axle, so we get the all-wheel electric drive. This proves to be an amazing upgrade not just for pickups. Tesla did something similar to this on their Cybertruck. However, they went a bit overboard and put 3 motors in. While Rivian upped them by one and put in four electric motors, one for each wheel. We can only imagine how well this translates to performance. By implementing something similar we can see that Jeep did its homework and want to go green eventually.

The PHEV system can propel the Gladiator for another 100 miles just on battery power alone. A hybrid introduction obviously improves performance and fuel economy, which is a major concern for all pickups. This will also help the engine in terms of longevity and reduce the stress it receives. The whole automotive industry is pushing toward green energy, there are some electric pickups on the market already. So it is only a matter of time before the Gladiator makes that jump as well. However, this year is not the time for that. Perhaps next redesign we get such news. The battery pack would need to be a big one due to the sheer size of the pickup, perhaps 200 kWh should suffice. But keep an ear out for any news about upcoming updates in terms of powertrain.

Fuel economy

The upcoming 2024 Jeep Gladiator isn’t really cheap when it comes to fuel. It gets 16 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway which accounts to 19 mpg of combined driving. So even with the hybrid system, it is lacking behind some of the top dogs in the category. Full electrification would improve these numbers and solve a big shortcoming of the Gladiator.
