2020 Mercedes X-Class: News, Design, Options, Release

Mercedes joined the growing premium pickup market with its X-class model in late 2017 for the 2018 model year and buyers have now the mid-size truck with the Mercedes’ sense for the luxury and ride comfort. Limited to the four-cab only, this truck provides high-quality interior and expensive options while improves also the ride comfort over the Nissan Navara with which it shares the platform. The model gets also attention with the smooth exterior look while comes with the four-cylinder turbodiesel engine or more powerful turbodiesel V-6 under the hood.

As for the next 2020 Mercedes X-Class version, the latest reports don’t promise big upgrades. The rumors appeared previously that Mercedes is considering a more potent, V-8 engine-powered version and the AMG-badged model was also mentioned. However, we heard from the brand’s officials that chances for the V-8 version are very slim and we shouldn’t also expect the version with the AMG badge attached.

So, the X350d 4Matic version will likely remain the most-powerful X-Class model in the 2020 model year and there won’t be notable styling and interior upgrades either. The brand will likely add new equipment options and make some features more accessible. The new trim option is also possible as well as the new special edition version.

2020 Mercedes X-Class: Design

The 2020 Mercedes X-Class will return with the familiar and sleek styling of the current version and there won’t be a more aggressive AMG-badged X-Class model in the near future as the things now stand. Mercedes could offer the new special edition version of the premium truck and add a new trim option to keep attention on the model until the approaching mid-update.

Still, the 2020 version will keep the same body shape and the brand’s styling signatures around the Navara-based platform. The grille version and headlights familiar from brand’s other utility vehicles will define the look of the model. The model will make some styling modifications depending on the trim version.

The base X-Class version will arrive on the 17-inch wheels and with the matte black grille and unpainted bumpers. In the upper grades, the truck will add larger alloy wheels and body-colored bumpers while the top-tier version will get more chrome elements.

Behind the wheel of the X-Class model, buyers will enjoy in the composed ride and high-quality interior. It’s not clear yet would Mercedes introduce the new MBUX cockpit style or stay on the COMMAND infotainment setup for the 2020 model year. The new trim option with unique details is also possible.

The truck will come well-equipped in every version with the pricey features installed in upper grades. The base version will use semi-automatic air conditioning, a 7-inch touchscreen, DAB, Bluetooth and more. The upper trim will add more speakers, automatic wipers, keyless entry and start, etc. Available will also be leather upholstery, larger center screen, automatic climate control, electronic seats and more. The less potent four-cylinder engine will provide 163 hp and torque of 400Nm. With the additional turbocharger, the engine under the hood of the X250d version will make 187 hp and torque of 430 Nm.
