2024 Nissan Frontier Review: Hybrid Truck and Pro-4X Upgrades

Another mid-size pickup is getting a redesign, it is the big 2024 Nissan Frontier. There were too many rumors about the pickup getting the ax. Fortunately, they weren’t true. This is one of the top-selling pickups and with good reason we might say. It did a lot of things well, and it looked well while doing it. Truth be told, there are better-performing pickups on the market, but that is no reason to discontinue the pickup. A much better idea would have been to update it and give it more fighting power. Which is exactly what they did.

We can expect a lot of changes this time around. The interior should receive an upgrade. As there are much better-looking cabins when it comes to pickups. More style wouldn’t hurt the Frontier, and also some better technology and safety features. The outside is most likely to remain unchanged. There will obviously be some minor tweaks to improve styling and functionality. The powertrain is a big question mark. We are not sure what Nissan is planning to do. There are rumors about a hybrid model that might be in the works. Let’s take a closer look at what the new Frontier will look like.

Redesign Details: Interior and Exterior

The cabin is getting a refresh as well for the 2024 Nissan Frontier. The seats are getting new cushions and heated and ventilating features as well. This will surely come in handy off the paved road and especially if you sit for a whole shift in this vehicle. No massaging feature though, this is too luxurious at this point for the Frontier. The infotainment system will remain the same as with the previous version. But the dashboard could become electric as well as a heads-up display. There will be enough space for 5 people to sit comfortably. There should be some other amenities added as well. The brand added audio system, some ambient lighting along with a moonroof.

The outside of the 2024 Nissan Frontier is getting only minor updates. The exterior will resemble its predecessors. Big 18-inch wheel rims are available, with an option of going up to 19 inches of lightweight aluminum. This improves power to weight ratio and all pickups benefit from it. The cargo bed is a standard length of 5.5 feet. The front fascia is big and mean. It has some chrome on it and a big Nissan logo. The general body design is ergonomic, it has a sporty look to it. But curves make it a bit aerodynamic which improves fuel economy.

2024 Nissan Frontier Specs

The new 2024 Nissan Frontier is going to continue with the tradition of adventurous pickups. It is mainly built with difficult terrain in mind. The wild path Frontier has some good engines on offer when it comes to that part of the pickup. The engine has to be tried and tested, it will be put under a lot of stress and it needs to last. There is still going to be the option of the 3.8-liter V6 engine. This beast produces 310 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.

This should suffice when it comes to unpaved roads. But the torque count could be a bit increased. Wheel spins show their value on terrains such as mud, snow and sand. If off-roading is your thing, perhaps another engine would fit the bill better. Nine-speed automatic transmission is the standard option with this engine. The platform and architecture will remain the same. This points to the same engines being used, and no electrification whatsoever. But a diesel engine will make an appearance.

Hybrid and EV

There are several options for a good diesel engine. But what this brings to the table is more torque. And with the off-roading vehicle, this is exactly what you want. More torque means better handling and driving on difficult terrain. But what we were hoping to hear was news about the hybrid or electric version. A hybrid powertrain would also bring a lot of benefits to the build. Frontier with a mild hybrid would have better mileage, more power and less stress on the engine itself. There are some self recharging capabilities that make the pickup recharge the battery as you drive. But there is a much better option obviously.

A fully electric Frontier would do wonders. A battery pack would have to be a bigger one. Probably 150 kWh to 200 kWh. Due to the sheer size of the pickup and the workload it actually does. But this would help it match the output of traditional combustion engines. The range should be above 300 miles, anything less than that will become a nuisance for charging. This is not official yet, and most probably isn’t happening this rebuild. Perhaps next time, Nissan will try to make it happen. It would obviously require a lot of work and a different architecture and platform. All those components have to be moved under the cabin for better handling and steering.

Fuel economy

The new 2024 Nissan Frontier is expensive to keep running. This doesn’t play into more people buying it. But it can get 10 mpg in the city and 14 on the open road. As we already mentioned a hybrid version should improve the numbers greatly.

2024 Nissan Frontier Price

We can expect the new 2024 Nissan Frontier later in 2023. Most probably the fall of the upcoming year. Starting price is estimated at around $30,000. This is not the most expensive in that category, but it is not the cheapest as well. But the price could increase with some different amenities added. Main competitors are Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado.
