Will the 2023 Ram 1500 Get the Inline-6 Hurricane Engine?

The mid-size segment might get a bit stronger, the new 2023 RAM 1500 is riddled with improvements. The mid-size pickup from RAM is one of the top-selling pickups on the market. This is with good reason as it is powerful, comfortable, and reliable. What more can someone ask for in a truck? The new generation of 1500 is a huge step up from the last iteration. RAM decided to give some attention to the interior as well as the outdoor design. The overall design features were lackluster and other competitors had the upper hand when the design was in question.

So in order to come out on top of that pecking order, RAM is pulling all the stops with their new 1500. The biggest question remains the powertrain. It will most likely be a band of well-known engines. These were in an offer last time, although these versions might have better output. But some amazing news for fans of powerful engines. The RAM 1500 might feature a new powertrain. We are talking about a mighty Hurricane inline 6 engine. With all the innovations for this remodel, RAM is likely to be a top seller again. Let’s take a closer look at the new RAM 1500.

Engine, Performance, and Transmission

As we already mentioned, the new 2023 RAM 1500 will have a similar powertrain offer. This is not a bad thing of course, since these engines are proven and reliable. There is a V6 and a V8 on offer. They are both gasoline versions and are paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. They also get help from a mild hybrid technology, 48 volts in size. But we have a 5.7 liter Hemi V8 that doesn’t get that kind of support. The diesel version is still available in the 2023 version. However, we are saddened to find out that it will be discontinued in January of 2023.

But before that happens, the 260 horsepower V6 diesel will be available with certain trims. These include the Laramie, Big Horn, Tradesman, Lone Star, Limited Longhorn, and Limited. For those who like to go a bit off-road, there is a Rebel trim which is tailor-made for difficult terrain. It is a bit beefier and has the right toolset for off-roading adventures. All of the RAM 1500 versions have improved rear suspension with standard coil springs and optional air springs. This replaces the archaic leaf springs and is a big upgrade for comfort. The air suspension models also have adaptable ride height, this can improve fuel efficiency and improve handling off the road. Also, it makes sure nothing gets stuck under the pickup.

The 2023 Ram 1500 has good fuel economy. The hybrid V6 and V8 engines are an excellent example of this, as well as the diesel version. Rear-drive diesel can get 26 mpg of combined driving. The V6 and V8 get 23 and 20 mpg respectively. The Rebel trim V6 maxes out at 24 mpg.

New Configuration – 2023 Ram 1500 I6

There are also implications that the Ram 1500 will start implementing the famous Hurricane Inline-6 engine. There is no mention of electrification yet. Some pickups are going green with good reason. But RAM is still forgoing that move. Perhaps the next generation of 1500 trucks will go that route. But if they do we hope for a bigger battery that can match the output of traditional engines. This means at least 150 kWh should be used, this would also give it an amazing range. The Ram 1500 has a payload capacity of at least to 2,320 pounds and a towing capacity of up to 12,750 pounds. Except for the Ford F-150, which presently tops 13,000 pounds, it can haul more than all other vehicles combined. Rams that have a crew cab body type, such as the Rebel model, as well as those that have an extended cab. The more accommodating 1500 can haul more than 11,500 pounds, though.

The revolutionary “Hurricane” 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine is expected to eventually replace the 6.4-liter and 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 powertrains. This engine was used in some of Jeep’s models and it had an amazing display of outstanding power figures. The engine generates 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque, a slight increase above the 5.7-liter V-8’s 392 horsepower. It is still not confirmed if Ram is going to utilize this engine, but its power has its pros. It would be a great replacement for diesel engines which we know are going to be discontinued. They don’t even have to change the architecture since the engine is similar in size to the already huge Hemi V8.

2023 Ram 1500 Interior

The Ram 1500’s interior features enormous passenger capacity and cubby storage that is incredibly functional. The Ram seems more like a luxury car than a pickup truck in higher trim levels thanks to the addition of expensive materials and creature comforts. The most expensive variants have actual wood accents and premium leather surfaces, while the majority of versions are available with luxury options like heating and ventilation for the seats and a panoramic sunroof. The crew cab of the Ram 1500 is incredibly roomy, like the majority of full-size pickup trucks. Additionally, it boasts an unusual split-folding tailgate and a ton of inside storage. Although the crew cab body design is compatible with both 5.7 feet and 6.4 feet cargo beds, it only goes with the latter.

Exterior

The new 2023 RAM 1500 looks aggressive on the road, and off of it. It has classic 18-inch wheels, with the option of increasing that up to 20 inches. This is of course lightweight aluminum to shave off some weight. It has underbody skid plates with an electronic locking rear differential. The front fascia is shiny and huge. Bumpers are quite prominent and they protrude. With hook and winch capability of course. It has a bit of a sporty look with its curves. Which improves the aerodynamics and ergonomics of the pickup itself.
