The all-new Ram 1500 is finally here and the new-generation version put the bar high for the class. The new Ram benefits from the structural improvements while weighs less looks more modern, has more refined and techier interior than ever and also employs the 48-mild hybrid system for most powertrains. The number of options is also eight as far as trims go plus cab styles, bed lengths and three powertrain options. The towing and payload capability also go up.
However, Ram has recently been in the news where the possibility of introducing the performance and off-road version was mentioned. The Ram Rebel is currently the most capable Ram 1500 and with the upgraded off-road hardware, one can engage the more rugged terrains. The redesigned Chevrolet also introduced the off-road ready TrailBoss version while the new GMC Sierra also brings the AT4 version with the more robust hardware. However, Ford’s F-150 Raptor still remains the king of the off-roading thanks to the 3.5- twin-turbo EcoBoost and improved running equipment. The Raptor receives some suspension upgrades for the 2019 model year.
However, it seems that with some details Ram is trying to hint the arrival of the new mighty Ram 1500 version which would have everything to challenge the impressive Ford Raptor. What’s more, the new Ram version could become the most powerful factory-made half-ton pickup truck model. The story is not new, however.
Ram presented the driving-ready Ram Rebel TRX Concept in 2016. The mighty, supercharged HEMI V-8 was under the hood of the Concept and combined with imposing look and powerful hardware. Now this model is in the news as the vehicle to enter the production.
Ram may have hinted the introduction of the most-powerful Ram 1500 when the picture of the new-gen model interior with the time on the clock set to “7:07” was released to announce model’s arrival. That was interpreted as the announcement of the version with the 707 hp Hellcat engine. However, the Ram Rebel Concept was also on the list of the upcoming vehicles on brand’s site.
And while Ram hasn’t commented on this topic, the reports claim the arrival of even two mighty Ram models. The Hellact powered versions is reported as the 2020 Ram Rebel TRX and 7.0-liter V-8-powered model should use the Rebel TR badge.
2020 Ram Rebel TRX: The game-changing performance
If the reports about the 2020 Ram Rebel TRX turn out to be true, this model would become the most powerful factory-built half-ton pickup truck. The mighty F-150 Raptor gets 450 hp and 510 pound-feet of torque from the 3.5-liter bi-turbo V-6 EcoBoost engine. But with the 6.2-liter supercharged V-8, Ram may just have announced 707 ponies and torque around 625 lb-ft. The TRX Concept from the State Fair of Texas had the detuned version of the HEMI V-8 capable of producing 575 hp. Even with that, the Rebel TRX would surely be the most-powerful half-ton ute on the market. But if Ram really hinted something with the mentioned timing on the clock 707 might be the magic number.
The reports, however, suggest that Rebel TRX won’t be the only mighty new Ram. The Rebel TR version should exploit a 7.0-liter naturally aspirated V-8 engine. Codenamed as the Banshee this mill would pump 520 hp and torque of 525 lb-ft.
Upgraded hardware:
With the mighty engines under the hood, the new Ram versions will have to go with further component strengthening to support high power and torque numbers. The special version of the transmission would also be needed in that case. The same is with the suspension components. The models would likely employ the 4×4 Performance Control System to provide the best-possible traction on different terrains.
2020 Ram Rebel TRX: The Look and Interior
If it hits the road, the 2020 Ram Rebel TRX would also stand out with the unique styling and interior design. The model would use massive all-terrain 37-inch tires wrapped around unique wheels. The wheel travel would likely be around 13 inches like on the Concept version. The brutal force would further be emphasized with more sculpted hood, massive bumpers, fenders and underbody protection, unique graphics and more.
Inside the cabin, similar as on the Concept version, we should expect suede seats and contrasting red accents combined with TRX logos. The model would also employ brand’s well-built and responsive infotainment system and it can even use the largest display option. The paddle shifter, unique steering wheel and more would also be inside the cabin.
2020 Ram Rebel TRX: Release, Price
When it comes to the date of arrival, the reports promise it for the 2020 model year. The fist price estimations suggest something around $55, 000.
