The Dacia Duster is the hugely successful compact crossover SUV manufactured by Renault’s budget-friendly subsidiary based in Romania. The Duster entered recently the second generation and the model benefits from the new turbocharged engine options, more comfort and tech features. The firm promised also the arrival of several special edition versions of this model. However, the newest generation Duster SUV might also get the pickup form and debut by the end of the year as the latest reports indicate. The 2020 Renault Duster pickup truck is already available in South America since 2015 but the new version should be more work-oriented machine and reach more markets.
The firm hasn’t revealed much more about the 2020 Renault Duster Pickup Truck and the prototype version hasn’t yet been caught on the road. Anyway, the new Duster-based pickup will surely share most of the gear and design with the recently all-new SUV and borrow its powertrains as well.
2020 Renault Duster Pickup Truck: Design
Renault still keeps the veil of mystery around the 2020 Renault Duster Pickup Truck but there shouldn’t be big surprises regarding model’s design. It would need more time and money if Renault would choose to make the pickup truck more distinctive than the SUV model and we saw similar examples in the industry where the SUV and truck models share the same platform and design.
The story is the same with the already available Duster Oroch which is based on the first-generation Duster SUV. The truck is a class itself based on its size and design. The model is placed on the 6.1-inch longer wheelbase than the SUV version and has also an extended overall length. Considering that the second-generation Duster SUV uses the improved B0 platform of the previous Duster version, the new pickup model should also stay in similar dimensions.
The model should have a similar visual identity as the related SUV as well. We actually expect almost identical front-end design and side body sculpting while extended wheelbase will allow the adoption of the cargo bed. It’s not yet clear would model come in the four-door cab style or two-door version. We are more inclined toward the crew cab version.
Interior, equipment:
The interior of the new pickup truck with the Renault badge should also get an inspiration from the Duster SUV. Two models should share similar comfort and tech features as well as the dash design.
The newest Duster SUV comes with improved sound insulation and uses better quality materials. The truck will also adopt similar design and materials and will be built to last. There should also be modern tech and comfort equipment such as 7-inch touchscreen-based infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, DAB radio, a rearview camera, etc.
The equipment list should also cover automatic climate control, DRLs, keyless entry and ignition and systems like a hill descent control and hill start assist. The blind spot monitoring system and multi-view camera system should also appear but the budget-friendly model will likely skip systems like adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
2020 Renault Duster Pickup Truck: Powertrains
The newest Dacia Duster SUV can be had with various powertrain options including petrol and diesel units. The 2020 Renault Duster Pickup Truck should borrow some of the already available powertrain options.
The Duster Oroch truck gets the power from the 1.6-lite and 2.0-liter petrol engines which spinning the wheels via the five- and six-speed gearboxes.
The new Duster Pickup Truck should, however, adopt more modern engines with better efficiency and reduced emissions. A turbocharged 1.3-liter TCe petrol-sipping unit could be used with different outputs around 130 and 150 horsepower. There could again be a 1.6-liter engine with the natural aspiration and power capability around 105 hp.
The truck should also use a more frugal and torquier diesel engine. A 1.5-liter dCi four-banger diesel unit should come with AdBlue system for emission control and power around 120 hp.
With the available four-wheel drive and raised riding height, the Duster Pickup Truck should also be capable off-road.
2020 Renault Duster Pickup Truck: Arrival, Price
The arrival of the 2020 Renault Duster Pickup Truck should be by the year-end. More details should emerge soon including the price of the model. It could be valued around 12, 000 euros.
