2021 Chevy Colorado: Changes, Equipment, Price

The arrival of the redesigned Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon for 2015 initialized the revival of the mid-size truck segment in the US but with the recent reintroduction of the Ford Ranger, the arrival of the hardcore Jeep Gladiator and refreshed Toyota Tacoma, the GM’s mid-size trucks need a new round of upgrades to stay relevant. The 2021 Chevy Colorado comes with some aesthetic tweaks to keep attention until the next redesign while other changes are related to the trims and equipment availability. There are no significant interior or mechanical upgrades.

For the new model year, each trim gets an updated front-end styling while additional color options will be available in some trims. News for the 2021 season is also discontinuation of the base trim and the next version will start from the Work Truck trim which also means a higher base price.

2021 Chevy Colorado: Design

The next 2021 Chevy Colorado comes with the refreshed styling in each trim but the level of changes varies depends on the version.

The updated Colorado enters the new model year with the tweaked front-end styling and every version gets a new center bar that runs through the middle of the grille. The front fascia sports also a redesigned lower bumper and skid plates. Another new detail is also the gold Bowtie badge on the WT and LT trims while the Z71 version has the black logo.

The off-road-ready Colorado ZR2 goes on sale with the new, wider and more prominent grille style finished in black.

The profile of the model returns unchanged while the rear comes with the tweaked tailgate which trades the Bowtie logo for the Chevrolet stamping.

The refreshed Colorado gets also new Sand Dune Metallic body color for the Z71 and ZR2 versions.

Interior, Equipment:

Unlike the exterior, the cabin of the next Colorado enters the new model year with no significant upgrades.

At the equipment level, the updated Chevy Colorado discontinued the base trim due to the low sale rate and the trim range begins now with the Work Truck version. This version comes with the 7-inch touchscreen-based Infotainment 3 system with Apple Car and Android Auto, cloth upholstery and carpeting. Available options include keyless entry, a remote locking tailgate, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, etc.

The LT version upgrades with the 17-inch wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, satellite radio and a larger 8-inch touchscreen. Optional equipment includes navigation, upgraded sound system, and heated seats.

The Colorado Z71 gets all-terrain tires, upgraded suspension, a locking rear differential, unique styling and interior cues.

The hard-core, off-roader Colorado ZR2 upgrades with the bigger all-terrain tires, lifted suspension, and special shocks combined with the bigger fenders and specific bumpers for better approach and departure angles.

When it comes to safety, the model should return with several driver aids including forward collision warning and lane departure warning.

2021 Chevy Colorado: Performance

There is no big deal news for the new model year when it comes to the mechanics. The updated 2021 Chevy Colorado returns with the familiar petrol and diesel engines.

The engine range starts again with the basic 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired to the 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine is good for 200 hp and torque of 191 lb-ft.

The next-level petrol unit remains a 3,6-liter V-6 capable of producing 308 hp and torque of 275 lb-ft. This engine is connected to the 8-speed automatic transmission and allow up to 7, 000 pounds of towing.

At the top of the food chain is again a 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine good for 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The diesel engine is mixed with the 6-speed automatic transmission and this combination allows up to 7, 700 pounds of towing.

The Duramax turbodiesel is also the most efficient option delivering up to 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway when combined with the rear-wheel drive. The V-6-equipped Colorado should provide up to 25 mpg highway. The Colorado ZR2 powered by the Duramax diesel engine will manage up to 22 mpg highway.
