2021 GMC Sierra HD: Changes, Specs, Price

General Motors introduced the all-new Chevy and GMC heavy-duty trucks for the 2020 model year. The redesigned heavy-haulers are on sale with the revised styling and upgraded underpinning. The trucks are also more capable than ever with immense towing and payload capability. They go on sale with various modern tech and trailering systems and in various body styles and trim options. However, following the last year’s redesign, the 2021 GMC Sierra HD will get a new round of upgrades.

The Sierra HD enters the new model year with wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play capability. The base version will come with the optional safety package with automatic emergency braking. For the new season, GMC will also offer the Denali Black Diamond edition version with unique design elements and gear. The upcoming GMC Sierra HD introduces also the X31 off-road variant similar to the Silverado Z71. The AT4 off-road version that is already on sale comes with more features and safety equipment. The new model year brings also the additional color and wheel options.

2021 GMC Sierra HD: Design

The all-new, fourth-generation GM Sierra HD arrived last year on the upgraded architecture and with more modern styling. The newest Sierra HD models are also larger better equipped and they use larger cargo beds.

The Sierra HD has an imposing and edgy design with the dominating signature grille. The grille style varies depending on the trim option and the top tier Denali version gets its signature grille as well. Flanking the grille are modern headlights with C-shaped signature lighting. The sculpted hood with the scoop on the diesel-powered versions contributes also to the model’s rugged appearance.

The Sierra HD has smooth door panels and subtly sculpted fender flares. The cargo bed options are larger than before and there is also a Carbon Fiber Pro option. The MultiPro tailgate is another model’s unique feature.

For the 2021 model year, the Sierra HD gets the Denali Black Diamond edition version with unique 20-inch wheels, power-retractable steps and unique trim inserts. There will also be the new X31 version with Rancho shocks, skid plates and hill descent control. The 2021 GMC Sierra HD gets also new color options including Ebony Twilight Metallic, Cayenne Red Tintcoat and Hunter Metallic. There will also be various new wheel options in different sizes.

Interior, Equipment:

The GMC Sierra HD is roomier and techier than ever after the recent redesign. The model has logically arranged and easy to use controls. The upper grades go on sale with soft-touch surfaces and premium comfort and tech features.

The new 2021 GMC Sierra HD comes with the same in-cab design but there will be wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility. Reports indicate that the 2022 MY will bring notable in-cab upgrades.

At the equipment level, the base version comes with the vinyl upholstery and manual windows and locks. The base version gets also optional automatic emergency braking.

The mid-range versions get the standard MultiPro tailgate, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone automatic climate control, upgraded upholstery, etc.

The AT4 version uses dark chrome trim accents, red tow hooks, lifted suspension, skid plates, etc. The new X31 model adds similar upgrades as the Silverado Z71.

The Denali version lifts the stake with premium leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, surround-view cameras, etc.

The Sierra HD offers also various active safety and trailering technologies. The model is available with forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The model gets also 15-view towing camera system.

2021 GMC Sierra HD: Powertrains, Towing

The 2021 GMC Sierra HD goes on sale with the uncharged powertrain options and towing capability.

The standard gasoline engine remains a 6.6-liter V-8 unit good for 401 hp and torque of 464 lb-ft. This engine works together with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The towing and torque king is a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V-8 paired to the 10-speed automatic transmission. The engine makes 445 hp and torque of 910 lb-ft.

The Sierra HD can tow up to 35, 550 pounds. The payload capacity is up to 7, 442 pounds.

2021 GMC Sierra HD: Release, Price

The 2021 GMC Sierra HD should go on sale this fall. The price range should start at about $37, 000. The premium Denali versions will cost from about $65, 000.
