2023 Ford F-150 Rattler Review

The full-size segment is getting crowded, the new 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler is coming. We feel like Ford fans are a bit spoiled for choice. There are a lot of options, especially in the F-150 line of trucks. But by no means is that a bad thing. It is nice to have a specific truck for every occasion. The Rattler is centered around off-roading. It will probably look and drive similar to its sibling, Tremor. But we hope that Ford will pull some stops to make the Rattler feel special. If it doesn’t feel special, why even bother having so many different types of F-150.

It will most definitely have a toolset to tackle the off-road. This means better suspension, better approach angle and ride height. A lot needs to be tweaked in order to make it off-road ready. Interior shouldn’t be neglected, after all, some style never hurt anyone. On the outside, we already mentioned, minor tweaks are expected. Making it look like a desert runner might help as well. The powertrain is a big question mark for now. Perhaps there will be some changes introduced, or even electrification is possible. At the moment everything is on the table. Let’s see what the new Rattler might look like.

2023 Ford F-150 Rattler Interior Changes

On the inside, the new 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler looks refreshed. The style is improved and made contemporary. There are new seats. Better cushioning and improved lumbar support. This will be noticeable off-road since that is like home for the Rattler. Doubt we will be getting massaging seats, but heated and ventilated seats are a must. Infotainment is standard with 12 inches in size and full connectivity. There is enough space for five passengers. It does lack a bit of luxury since there are no chrome or wooden accents along the cabin. But it makes up for it with cool gadgets and technology. It remains to be seen if hands-free driving will be available. We have our fingers crossed for this one.

What it Looks Like?

On the outside, the 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler looks quite similar to its predecessors. It has the countries of the classic F-150. With some minor body tweaks to make it better suited for off-road. It has increased ride height. Large 19-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. Approach angles are improved for bumpers. Skid plates under the truck to make it safer to run over obstacles. The cargo bed is the standard 5.5 feet with an amazing new tailgate. The front fascia is big as usual for Ford. It has a lot of air intake behind the mesh to cool the engine down.

Engines are Standard

The engine lineup is nothing less impressive than the F-150 lineup. There are a lot of choices, and choices are good. We will get the FX4 package. This means a lot of goodies for off-roading. First up we have a 2.7 liter EcoBoost engine. This little beast can rev up the engine with the power of 325 horses and spin the wheels with 400 pounds-feet of torque. This is an amazing feat for an engine of this size. More than enough to move the 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler around. For those who are looking for a bit of a boost, Ford has you covered. We get the choice of 5.0 liter V8. This can produce 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. This is extremely handy when hauling some excess cargo.

We have a 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 engine. This engine can produce around 400 horsepower but a whopping 500 pound-feet of torque. All of these options are paired with an automatic transmission with 10 gears and all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive makes perfect sense given the fact that the Rattler is supposed to feel at home off-road. The new 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler isn’t the cheapest truck to fill up with petrol. It gets around 19 mpg. This would be better with a simple hybrid powertrain. Which makes it even stranger that Ford hasn’t done it already.

Could 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler be All-Electric?

Currently, the hybrid or electric variants aren’t in plans. This comes as a bit of a shock as we all know how much that would be a good move for Ford and its fans. Hybrid trucks are not a novelty. And introducing a powertrain hybrid system has many benefits. For example, a single or dual electric motor setup increases power. It can give better mileage and range and also keeps the engine last longer. This is due to the engine not being under so much stress all the time. If you run out of fuel, those motors can spin the wheels for at least 40 miles. And they usually have self-charging capabilities. This would obviously increase the starting price for the 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler. But this is better in the long run, since you save so much money on fuel. The electric version would be even better.

Again, with two electric motors and a big battery you can get much more horsepower. It would rival the V8 or even more. All that without polluting the environment. Most common are batteries with 100 kWh. If Ford goes up to 150 kWh this would give the excellent range as well as a lot of power. Combine this with peer-to-peer charging and fast charging ability and you have an amazing piece of technology. Hopefully, Ford goes back to the drawing board and comes up with an electric concept for the Rattler. Perhaps they are worried that an electric pickup wouldn’t fare well off-road. There is still time however for Ford to change that. They need to catch up with its major rival, Chevy Silverado.
