Ford is bringing another nametag back, it is the famed 2023 Ford Ranchero. Another blast from the past, Ford Ranchero is a long-forgotten name. It was produced as a coupe pickup until 1979. Back then, this type of vehicle was very popular. Just look at Avalanche it was one of the most popular cars at the time. It even got its own movie. Ford recently revived the Maverick nameplate, although with a different purpose. It used to be a regular car, but now it is a small pickup truck, one of the few on the market. Manufacturers are bringing back their old designs, people simply love retro vehicles and a bit of nostalgia hits them as well. But we believe that the new ranchero will have some differences when compared to the old one.
The styling and body design are a bit old, even though people love retro. So there will be some tweaks on the outside of the pickup and they won’t be small changes. The inside will have to be done from scratch as everything in there is obsolete. Seating, styling, technology, it is simply easier and more logical to build it from scratch. The powertrain will also be different this time around. We have to see where Ford draws inspiration for the Ranchero. Let’s take a closer look at all the details we have available.
The Ford Ranchero’s cabin will incorporate many Ford Escape crossover features. As an outcome, we may expect a cockpit that is both roomy and cutting-edge in terms of technology. Although we don’t anticipate it to be as opulent as the present Escape model, you can count on a functional cabin with enough room for five passengers. An 8-inch touchscreen and fabric upholstery will both be included as standard equipment from Blue Oval. Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, the SYNC4 system, and navigation. Surprisingly, the Ford Maverick XL base model has the same set of amenities. The trim levels and optional packages that will be available are unknown.
2023 Ford Ranchero Exterior
The exterior styling of the current vehicle in the series will be used for the next 2023 Ford Ranchero. We anticipate that the tiny Maverick’s appealing boxy form will carry over to this next generation. The new Ranchero might also share this model’s architecture. The truck’s dimensions will be altered as a result, and its ground clearance will drop to about 8.5 inches. The design aesthetic will probably resemble that of the Maverick. In any event, we anticipate that it will ship with 17-inch wheels as standard, with larger wheels offered as an option. Ranchero, on the contrary, is rumored to feature different front fascia and exterior colors.
2023 Ford Ranchero Engine and Specs
It is still unknown which engine will be under the hood of the 2023 Ford Ranchero. There is a plethora of powertrains that Ford has on disposal. But there are some more likely to be used than others obviously. There is also the question of electrification or a hybrid powertrain. There is no official information about the chosen engine lineup. But the most likely engine to be used is the EcoBoost 1.5 liter gasoline engine. This is a four-cylinder unit that will be paired with 10 speed automatic transmission most likely. This engine can produce up to 180 horsepower. This is nothing impressive, but it does come with great fuel economy and a smaller carbon footprint.
There is also a 2.0-liter version of the same engine. Obviously with a bit more power to it. We also hear rumors of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine used. It has a battery cell of 94 kWh paired with an internal combustion engine. This is the engine used in the Maverick and it produces 190 horsepower. If it is more than enough for a small Maverick to zoom around it should prove the same for the Ranchero. The 2023 Ford Ranchero could also use a more powerful engine.
There is a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It will feature rear-wheel drive though, we aren’t sure if there will be an all-wheel drive. It can produce 260 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. There is also an upgraded version with 360 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Reports also indicate that there will be a diesel version, which will make a lot of people happy.
2023 Ford Ranchero EV Truck
A fully electric variant is not mentioned though. Since they are rebuilding the whole car it makes sense though to start with a new architecture and a brand new platform. This would make it possible for the electric powertrain components to be placed under the cabin for better handling and balance. A battery of 100 kWh would suffice, this would match the output of the lower-end engines. But we see no reason to not incorporate a stronger battery, probably at 150 kWh. This would have a stronger output than the internal combustion engines as well as great range. It will be interesting to see how the Ranchero looks and what moves it after it rolls off the production line.
The new 2023 Ford Ranchero has a good outlook when it comes to fuel economy. If they decide to use the 1.5 liter EcoBoost engine, the mileage will be 46 mpg of combined driving. This is an excellent number, but it would go only up if they decide to use an electric or hybrid powertrain.
2023 Ford Ranchero Price and release date
We can expect to see the new 2023 Ford Ranchero on the road later in 2023, or perhaps early 2024. The competition isn’t clear as of now as there aren’t that many coupe utility vehicles on the road currently. The starting price is estimated at around $20000 which is a good value for a good performing piece of nostalgia.
