Another great truck is coming our way, the 2023 Subaru Pickup Truck is entering the game. This is another attempt at revival of names long forgotten. Subaru tried dabbling with pickups at the beginning of the 2000s. They made a pickup and dubbed it Baja back in 2001. Right away both truck and Subaru enthusiasts loved the truck. It was a big hit because it had all it took to be a great pickup. Great handling and steering. Great looking design both exterior and interior. The powertrain was good and reliable. But in 2006 it was discontinued.
We have seen several attempts recently where old names were resurrected. We had Ford Maverick, Ford Bronco, recently there are reports about a new Avalanche. So Subaru got an idea obviously with the current trend going on. So what will it take for the Subaru Pickup Truck to become a top seller once again. Well for starters the interior is outdated and could use a restyle obviously. No one likes to ride in a 15-year-old cabin. On the outside, we could also see some minor tweaks happening to make it better for driving. Powertrain needs a huge update, perhaps even some electrification in order. Let us see what details are known at the moment about the upcoming 2023 Subaru Pickup Truck.

Interior
The inside of the pickup is obsolete. Designers have to get back to the drawing board and start from scratch. Putting racing-type seats could do the trick, or regular seats work too. The more cushioning the better, with some decent lumbar support. We are certain that there will be heated and ventilated seats, due to the fact that the new 2023 Subaru Pickup Truck will go off-road. Massaging features are not likely though. There will most certainly be a central infotainment system of at least 10 inches in size.
The dashboard is likely to be digital due to the fact it’s a brand new vehicle and we are looking towards the future. The sunroof is something that could add a lot of buy appeal. Also, we suspect that the new Subaru Pickup will be able to seat 5 people with ease. The surround system is present, with at least 10 speaker setup. Safety features are plenty. They include lane change alert, front collision alert, drowsiness alert and similar. It is not certain if Subaru has a hands-free driving system, but it would be a great addition as well.
Exterior
On the outside, the 2023 Subaru Pickup Truck looks aggressive. It is built for the off-road and it has a great tool set. We get modern air suspension and tall ride height. This mid-size pickup has a huge front fascia. With a big mesh and a Subaru logo on top. Air intakes could be bigger in order to better cool the engine. But we believe there will be no overheating issues, whatsoever. Wheel rims are 20 inches standard and are made from aluminum. This shaves off some weight and improves power to weight ratio.
Further, this makes handling and steering better. Also less fuel is spent since the wind drag is decreased. The hood is a bit sporty with some curves. The cargo bed is standard 5.5 feet and has a modern tailgate with multiple features. Headlights are linear and hopefully, we get a unified LED bar on top for better visibility off the beaten path.

2023 Subaru Pickup Truck Engine Specs and Towing Capacity
The old powertrain is outdated, it is obsolete and there are numerous better options. So for 2023 Subaru Pickup Truck we have numerous options. First up we have a 2.4 liter turbocharged Boxer engine. It can produce around 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. This should be enough to keep the big Subaru Pickup Truck moving. This should prove enough even for the off-roading aspect of driving. There is also a 3.6 liter Boxer. It goes up to 300 horsepower and it can tow around 6500 pounds with ease. The main issue with the old Subaru Baja, or Subaru Pickup Truck, was the CVT. But we are glad to hear that Subaru won’t be using that technology anymore. This is information straight from the source and we doubt it is false.
There will be a six-speed manual transmission or an automatic transmission on offer. Probably 9-speed automatic, which is the most common found on today’s market. The new pickup will have all-wheel drive as standard. This makes perfect sense since it is an off-roading centered vehicle. The hybrid version is not announced but we can see Subaru combining an electric motor with their gas-guzzling engine. This would boost fuel economy and horsepower. Also a fully electric Subaru Pickup is possible. Just strap 150 kWh of batteries to it and watch it roam the wilds. This is an excellent way to future proof the truck and attracts new buyers. Many people now look at electric vehicles as something that is good for the environment as well, which it absolutely is.
Fuel Economy
No official testing has been done yet, but we can probably expect something similar to Subaru’s other big vehicles. Outback would be a perfect example. We should get 26 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway while 28 when combined. This is with all-wheel drive. The bigger engine would get around 22 mpg in the city, 29 on the highway and 25 combined. Using hybrid technology would extend the range. While full electrification with a big battery could give the new 2023 Subaru Pickup Truck range over 300 miles.
2023 Subaru Pickup Truck Price and Release Date
It is quite possible that we will get the new 2023 Subaru Pickup Truck sooner than expected. Rumors are that the truck will be on the road later in 2022 or early 2023. Starting price is estimated at $30000 for the basic trim. There will be numerous trims we suppose but they are not announced as of yet.
Hopefully it will have a manual transmission and not the lousy CVT I have in my 2019 Ascent that has been recalled twice and still not fixed. If no manual then I will be looking elsewhere.
