It has been quite a while, 14 years to be exact since the big pickup got the last redesign. So instead of completely changing everything, Toyota decided to simply upgrade it. This makes sense as the Tundra was quite a seller even in its late years. The upcoming refresh will affect a lot of aspects of the vehicle. The interior will get a touch up which is needed. Expect a more stylish interior, but not as luxurious as some pickups on the market.
Toyota is more about utility than comfort and a first-class feel. The outside will be modernized to capture the modern and contemporary look of a pickup that many appeals to. However, the powertrain might get a lot of changes. Everyone is hoping for diversity here. So a gasoline option and a diesel version should happen. However, Toyota is big on EV and hybrid systems so we can expect these as well. Let’s take a better look at what we know about the upcoming Tundra.
2023 Tundra Dually Configuration
The 2023 Tundra Dually is a dream come true for anyone using their pickup as a heavy workhorse. It has 4 wheels in the back. It should have an extended 6.5 feet cargo bed with an enforced frame. The current powertrain sounds weak for this purpose. So a more powerful diesel would be much better in this case. This is still not confirmed but Toyota needs a truck to represent them in that category. Hopefully, there will be more information soon.
Interior and Exterior Accessories
The inside of the 2023 Toyota Tundra will look more luxurious. There are numerous trims so the luxury level will depend on the trim. But new high-quality leather with contrast stitching is used for the upholstery. There is an improved and bigger infotainment system as well as a digital dashboard. Some chrome and wood accents along the cabin and a moonroof.
The fresh 2023 Tundra Dually looks quite similar to its predecessor. It is ready for off-road with increased ride height. It also comes with off-roading tires from the get-go. Lightweight rims are 19 inches in size. The front fascia is huge and aggressive, which only adds to the menacing look of the pickup.
I Force Engine
Unfortunately, we are losing the big V8 for the upcoming 2023 Toyota Tundra Dually. This is because the gargantuan engine is simply too big and too thirsty for this age and time. The regulations are becoming strict and eventually, everyone will move on to green fuel sources. The current version of the Tundra will feature a twin-turbo V6 that is paired with a 10-speed auto gearbox. But the only engine on offer does come with variety. It has three different versions. The i-Force 3.4-liter Twin Turbo V6 can create 390 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. This is a good amount considering this is a full-size pickup.
There is also a hybrid version that creates 440 horsepower and 580 pound-feet of torque. The Tundra’s towing capacity is 12,000 pounds, which is a little less than that of other full-size trucks. For instance, the F-150 can tow up to 14,000 pounds. The Tundra can carry a payload of up to 1940 pounds. Again, a number of rival half-ton pickups can tow additional loads in their cargo beds than the Ford, which has a payload limit of 3250 pounds. But the good news is here as well.
2023 Tundra Dually Diesel
It seems that the new 2023 Tundra Dually will have a diesel powertrain. This is not yet officially announced but Toyota did recently post a video about how a diesel engine work. So putting two and two together we can guess that something diesel related is brewing. Most rivals of the Tundra have 3.0 engines under their hoods, so it won’t be too difficult for Toyota to surpass that. There are numerous powertrain options when it comes to choosing a good diesel engine. One of those is the Land Cruiser engine.
A 3.3 liter V6 turbo-diesel with 300 horsepower and 515 pound-feet of torque. Towing capacity is a really important number, so we hope Toyota doesn’t disappoint in that regard. Fuel efficiency should be improved by using a diesel version as well. A fully electric Tundra isn’t happening yet, although Toyota did make an announcement about fully electrifying its whole fleet. That would require a bit more than a simple refresh. The architecture and platform would need to be changed in order to accommodate all of the electrical powertrain components. It would also make for extra space cargo under the hood.
The nonhybrid 2023 Toyota Tundra can get 20mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. Four-wheel drive is a bit weaker, 1mpg each to be exact. The hybrid model gets 20mpg city and 24 highway. The diesel powertrain for the Dually trim would also be quite economical, so there is that to look forward to.

The pickup is already on the road, it has been since the summer of 2022. The Tundra comes in many trims and this is what dictates the price. The SR trim is $38760, SR5 $44265, Limited $50360, Limited Hybrid $55810, and 1794 Edition $61255. The Platinum is $63570, Platinum Hybrid is $63900, the 1794 Hybrid is $64600, TDR Pro Hybrid is $70315 and Capstone Hybrid is $77040. The 2023 Tundra Dually might top them all.
