General Motors debuted two light-duty models this year and the all-new Chevy Silverado 1500 came in front of the public eye first at the Detroit Auto Show while flashier, new-generation GMC Sierra 1500 waited for the debut a bit longer. Again, two models share a lot of the DNA but GMC distinguished the new model further with more aggressive and flashy styling and a few unique innovations. The half-ton Sierra returns the high-luxury Denali trim but also stands out with the carbon fiber cargo bed option and new versatile, MultiPro tailgate. The new off-road focused AT4 is also available.

The new-gen Sierra 1500 goes on sale with two V-8 engines initially while other options which should match the offerings of the twin Silverado 1500 will appear later. The 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 will likely fill up the promised engine offer while there won’t be other major upgrades. After the revolutionary redesign, the model can’t offer much more and new color combinations and some reorganization in the equipment offer could change for the new model year.

When speaking about the premium versions, the Canyon Denali stands out with its true premium features.

The 2019 GMC Canyon Denali is the upcoming version of this top-tier trim variant and GMC will improve several aspects of the new model. There won’t be radical changes and the powertrain options remain but GMC addresses several important features. The old infotainment system is replaced with the newest version of the system and features. GMC also introduces new color options while also adds a digital rearview camera and rear park assist. The new power-adjustable driver seat also appears in the Denali trim and SLE, All Terrain and SLT.

The GMC Sierra HD trucks are comfortable, quiet and capable heavy-duty models available in many configuration options. For the 2017 model year, the heavy-duty haulers received the upgraded V-8 turbodiesel engine combined with the more efficient cooling system including the hood-mounted air intake. For the 2018 version, GMC introduced the standard rereview camera and a 7-inch touchscreen as well as the new grille for the Denali trim. As for the 2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD, we should again expect some changes in the equipment organization and package options. For the more notable changes, we will have to wait a year or two as the HD models will get the full redesign in a year or two after the launch of the redesigned, light-duty Sierra 1500.

The Sierra 1500 will break the covers soon and the redesigned heavy-duty versions will benefit from the similar upgrades when they arrive. The light-duty truck will be heavily updated rather than we will see the full redesign but will introduce upgrades on all fronts. The same strategy GM will apply to the HD series.

Like its corporate twin, the Chevy Silverado 1500, the GMC Sierra will also come as the new-generation version for the 2019 model year. The current versions of two half-ton trucks debuted in 2014 and recently spy photographers caught prototypes of GM’s trucks. Two models share similar mechanical components and that will be the case for the new generations as well, although we still don’t have specs of the engines which will power new versions.

On the other hand, judging by the spy photos, the new 2019 GMC Sierra will further distinguish itself with unique styling and fancier interior. Upgraded tech and safety features will round up the redesign and the model will again be available in high-luxury Denali trim.

On the other hand, the 2017 Sierra 2500 HD brings the next generation Duramax turbodiesel engine. However, for the buyers who want enhanced off-road capability and matched styling the All Terrain X package will be available on both light-duty and 2500 HD version. Availability:

GMC has introduced Sierra 1500 and Canyon All Terrain X version earlier this year but this treatment will also be available for the HD models. For the Sierra 1500 mentioned package is available on the SLT All Terrain trim in both double and crew cab body styles. For this model the list of exterior body colors includes Stone Blue Metallic, Onyx Black, Iridium Metallic, Summit White, Crimson Red Tintcoat and Light Steel Gray.

In case of the 2017 Sierra 2500HD this package is available on four-wheel drive crew cab models. Exterior colors are limited to Summit White and Black Onyx.
