Chevy Reaper Concept: What’s New?

Rumors are again circulating, it seems like the Chevy Reaper Concept is actually happening. This is one of the most talked about concepts in the recent past. The reaper was a monster truck built by a Chevy fan. It has been more than 15 years since the Reaper was conceived. Now it sounds like it is time to reimagine it. Hopefully, put everything on paper and start production. This was also supposed to be the main competitor of the Ford Raptor. Although Chevy is making Silverado 1500 ZR2 currently. This is considered to officially be their answer for Raptor. But many fans believe the Reaper would be a much better solution. The interior would probably be borrowed from another truck, Silverado sounds like the prime suspect for this.

On the outside, we don’t see borrowing designs. We hope for a brand new design. This is a Reaper and it should feel special when compared to other Chevy trucks. Making it aggressive and sturdy is mandatory. As far as the powertrain goes, we need something really big, something really powerful. Or could it be time for full electrification? Let us read more about the upcoming Chevy Reaper Concept.

Interior

On the inside, we can expect the Chevy Reaper Concept to be similar looking to some other Chevy truck. Silverado sounds like a possible solution. It has a contemporary design and amazing style. This is also followed by great technology which is just a great plus. Putting more cushioning would be a good idea. Seats need to be comfortable especially if they are to go off-roading a lot. Which this truck is supposed to do. Heated and ventilated seats are standard nowadays. This makes drives in the harshest environments enjoyable.

The sunroof is likely to happen, hopefully, it is an electric one and can be dimmed with a press of a button. The instrument panel is not complicated but has some chrome accents. Fewer buttons than usual so we expect a minimalistic look. The infotainment system is there as well, 14 inches in size. This means that the back row will be able to join in on the fun. Also, we forgot to mention that the Reaper seats five people easily.

Chevy Reaper Concept Exterior Updates

The outside look of the prototype looks menacing. After all, it is its purpose, to look aggressive and take on difficult obstacles. The Chevy Reaper Concept is the perfect answer to the Ford Raptor. We see huge 20-inch wheels. They are lightweight to shave off some weight and improve power to weight ratio. This would give it an immense advantage over the heavy Raptor. The front fascia is a classic Chevy front. It has a big mesh with air intakes to cool everything down in the engine department. There is a stepping rail on the side so you can get in and out more easily. The ride height is above 9 inches which is great. Bumpers are very prominent with intent. This just makes it look mad and angry. They have a good approach angle in order to not get stuck to obstacles.

Chevy Reaper Concept Specs

What Chevy will put under the hood of the upcoming Chevy Reaper Concept vehicle in terms of engines is still up for debate. The Silverado’s 5.3- and 6.2-liter V-8 engines are supercharged in the current model, giving them outputs of 475 horsepower and 550 horsepower, respectively. The earlier generation of Ford’s Raptor employed engines of similar proportions, but the second version has a more compact, twin-turbo 3.5 liter EcoBoost V-6 engine that should outperform a larger V-8 one.

Maybe Chevy will adopt a similar strategy and equip the new model with a smaller V-6 engine. Additionally, a new transmission and a four-wheel drive system are predicted for the model. On the other hand, the suspension and chassis will also be improved. High-strength steel will be injected into the frame, improving its rigidity for greater stability, off-road capability, and towing capacity. The frame will also lose some weight, improving fuel economy. Additionally, it will include revised Fox Racing Shocks and other suspension parts, as well as better, more durable brakes. There is no word on the street about full electrification or at least a hybrid powertrain.

All-Electric Truck

This comes as a bit of a surprise as we know they have the technology. One might say that hybrids and battery packs are not synonymous with monster trucks and off-roading beasts. Well, we beg to differ. As hybrids can improve both torque and horsepower they are a sure improvement over a simple gasoline engine. Also, they improve fuel economy so what is there to not like about them? We could see the Reaper being viable off the paved road with a battery pack as well. We are thinking about 150-200 kWh. Considering its size we would argue for the bigger battery. The range would surely be above 300 miles which is the aim. Also giving it fast charging and peer-to-peer charging is needed. This would be great for the future as most manufacturers are moving in this direction. Most of them vowed to have fully electric fleets by 2030.Chevy Reaper Concept

Price and Release Date

No actual date has been announced. A concept like this since it wasn’t yet announced won’t be finished this year. Earliest we can hope for would be late 2023 or early 2024. This would enable Chevy to solve the powertrain question and perhaps put in a battery pack to future proof the truck. Price is estimated at around $50000. This is not official but based on the look and specifications, this is the number that would be close to the actual price.
