Renault Alaskan Concept: Design, Performance

Many car manufacturer brands have shown their interest for lucrative pickup truck market. Among candidates, the Renault has shown its way of how the pickup model can look with Renault Alaskan Concept. This model features striking design and it is powered with diesel-burning engine. According to its size this model falls in the mid-size class and it comes in form of extended-cab pickup with four conventional doors.

Why is it important?

What is important about this model, it is said to be closely related with production versions which might come in 2017. What is more the production ready model should be based on the new Nissan Navara which is also the case with Mercedes’ upcoming pickup truck.

Renault Alaskan Concept: Striking Design

The Renault Alaskan Concept is modern looking pickup truck with Renault’s signature front side design but from the front pillar and backward this model clearly shows that it is based on the Nissan Navara. However, with soft curves, sharp angles and other features like satin, polished metal and some contrasting elements it stands out from any production version seen so far.

The front side styling is in line with company’s latest design language and its three-slat grille with large badge is expected to be seen on the production model as well. Sharp LED headlights are situated on each side of this grille and bellow sits sculpted bumper with two tow hooks and underbody protection protruding from it.

The profile is defined with flared fenders and 21-inch wheels with all-terrain tires that fit in it. On the rear side sculpted tailgate is flanked by attractive taillights and in the bumper area middle-mounted exhaust tip and additional towing hook can be seen.

About interior, it is only known that it offers room for five and that it features quite luxurious treatment.

Renault Alaskan Concept: Under the hood

Under the hood of the Renault Alaskan Concept is turbo diesel engine that is already used in several models from this brand. This 2.3 liter unit with four-cylinders is equipped with pair of turbochargers and can produce 165 hp and torque of  265 pound-feet which is available from 1, 500 to 3, 000 rpm. The smaller turbocharger supports the engine at low rmp while the bigger turbocharging unit provides the boost at higher rmp.

The Alaskan Concept allows up to 2, 200 pounds of payload capacity and it rides on the suspension which includes independent front setup and solid rear axle with five-link coil spring.

Renault Alaskan Concept: Production version

The Renault Alaskan Concept hints the upcoming production version of the Renault’s one-tonne pickup truck. This market version will go on sale in 2017 and will be available in several body styles. It is also expected to be powered with similar twin-turbo diesel engine and with 2.5 liter petrol and diesel engines for some markets as well.
