After the series of the all-new, light-duty trucks landed in the showrooms early this year as the 2019 models, the things are now getting hotter in the heavy-duty segment. General Motors revealed recently the all-new Silverado HD while the near-twin GMC Sierra HD should also come in front of the public soon. Ram is also finalizing the Ram HD models for the debut in early 2019. But, the leading brand in the industry will also respond on the redesigned competitors with the refreshed Super Series.

Ford’s heavy-duty trucks have been testing for a while and several times were caught on the camera. Spotted in deferent configurations, including the one-ton 2020 Ford F-350, the new models should bring light visual upgrades while more changes should appear in the powertrain range.

Ford is still keeping all details about the refreshed Super Duty models in the dark but as the latest reports claim the mid-upgrade could bring some replacements in the engine range while the heavy-duty, 10-speed automatic transmission should also debut. The prototype versions seem also to hide some visual modifications and Ford will also update the tech features.

The GMC Sierra HD trucks are comfortable, quiet and capable heavy-duty models available in many configuration options. For the 2017 model year, the heavy-duty haulers received the upgraded V-8 turbodiesel engine combined with the more efficient cooling system including the hood-mounted air intake. For the 2018 version, GMC introduced the standard rereview camera and a 7-inch touchscreen as well as the new grille for the Denali trim. As for the 2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD, we should again expect some changes in the equipment organization and package options. For the more notable changes, we will have to wait a year or two as the HD models will get the full redesign in a year or two after the launch of the redesigned, light-duty Sierra 1500.

The Sierra 1500 will break the covers soon and the redesigned heavy-duty versions will benefit from the similar upgrades when they arrive. The light-duty truck will be heavily updated rather than we will see the full redesign but will introduce upgrades on all fronts. The same strategy GM will apply to the HD series.

The Mercedes X-Class is brand’s push to the lucrative one-ton pickup truck segment and this model debuted in July 2017 as the 2018 model. The model competes with likes of the Ford Ranger, VW Amarok, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi L200 and sister model Nissan Navara. For the first model year the model offers two diesel options and with upgraded chassis and suspension of the global Navara, the X-Class delivers great ride comfort. The model also boasts strong off-road ability and class-leading technology.

The current X-Class truck uses Nissan’s turbo-diesel four engines but the 2019 Mercedes X-Class Pickup Truck should bring a new X350d version and Mercedes-built V-6 turbodiesel engine combined with the 7-speed automatic transmission. That will be the most notable upgrade for the 2019 version while other changes will be equipment related.

In the hardworking, heavy-duty class, Ford has the most up-to-date trucks. Ford’s Super Duty trio, the F-250, F-350 and F-450 came as the all-new models for the 2017 model year with sturdier, hard-tensile steel chassis and lighter aluminum-based body. More capable chassis helped with improved engines provide class-leading performance and towing capability. But the Super Duty Series also comes with latest tech and safety systems combined also with modern interiors and nice exteriors available in diverse options.

For the 2018 model year, Ford added the new Limited trim with the premium interior, unique exterior and top-notch tech and convenience features. The turbodiesel engine is also tuned to deliver 935 lb-ft of torque.

The 2019 Ford Super Duty will the next iteration of the heavy-duty models and big changes are not expected. Bigger upgrades will likely come in late 2019 for the 2020 model year when models should get the heavy-duty version of the 10-speed automatic transmission which should bring better performance and even greater torque.

Jeep recently revealed the new-generation Wrangler which brand claims is the most capable and techier yet. But what Jeep fans are eagerly waiting as well is the Wrangler-based pickup truck. The truck version was expected alongside the new Wrangler and but Jeep delayed model’s debut about a year from now. We know now that production of this model will begin in Nov 2018 and production will take place at the Toledo Assembly Complex. The pickup truck will likely be marketed as the 2019 Jeep Scrambler.

The new Jeep’s truck will be based on the redesigned Wrangler Unlimited and will share similar styling, powertrains, and technology. The truck will likely use two of three Wrangler’s engines and will offer differed top options while will come with four-door cab only.

In its current form, the Holden Colorado is fun to drive, fuel efficient, practical and capable of towing big loads. Its diesel engine is great performer either in delivering torque or in fuel economy and the Holden Colorado also has nice road manners. The Super-League models have also the same cabin as the F-150 and the styling is somewhat more aggressive. The redesigned trucks are also smarter and better-connected thanks to the new tech features but the safety is also guaranteed with many cameras and active driver aids. So, after such thorough redesign, the 2018 Ford Super Duty is not expected to bring any significant change. Ford could make some changes in the equipment organization but mechanically and design wise, the model will continue unchanged.
